Need help quick! door disobedience

i am going to michigan at 1 am for christmas n ill be gone till friday or saturday. i need a quick fix before then so i can close my door before i leave. god knows what ill come back to if i leave it open.

so i live in ilinois n its about 5 or 10 degrees out n i drive a '90 coupe. i drove earlier today and the car was fine and everything. that was around noonish i suppose.

well about an hour ago i went out to my 240 to go up to the gas station an my door was alittle frozen n stuck a slight amount but nothing bad at all, i pull it open n get in and go to close my door and it bounces right back open... so i spend the next 10 mins slamming and trying to close my door n it continuing to do the same thing over... and over... and over.. and over again...

its done it once before a few weeks ago when it was frigid cold out but it closed after a few tries. this time i cant close it at all. i decided to try letting my car warm up n maybe the warm air would do something, but didnt...

so i need this fixed before i go because god knows what or who could get into my car while im gone. the door wont shut. so the foot-well lights stay on. i dont want to come home to a dead, possibly snow filled car.

i need help!

has this happened to anyone else?

maybe ice between the edge of the door / fender? When a fender isnt aligned correctly sometimes the door makes contact when opening causing the fender to slightly bend. The door is then pushed back....idk that might be the problem

id keep it in the garage but my dad is extremely strict about me going in the garage with the 240 n wont allow it. i have no idea why... i cant even drive it cuz i gotta hold the door closed and the autobelt goes all spastic n wont stay on.driving one handed in the snow n ice is a bad idea too

That sucks... I feel for you. Maybe you should try to get a rope or something and tie it to the door and the steering wheel or something else in the car to hold it shut. You could also park real close to a wall or another car on that side so no one can get in from that door either (and you can get in and out with the passenger door).

But that's really messed up. I need to almost slam my doors to close them (especially the passenger) or they won't by fully closed (they will stay closed and can be locked and everything but they're still ajar), but your problem seems very bizarre. Good luck anyway.

ooooo i misunderstood you at first...dood i had a shell that did that. It was because the rubber in the door by the top of the window was unaligned. and needed to be put back

Btw what's going on with the hinges? They don't interlock with the door?

try holding the door handle open while you close it, then when the door is slammed shut, release the push the door handle back in.

my lumina does this. it gets so cold that the inner workings of the door are sluggish and need to be helped along the way. i had to hold my door closed all for a 35 minute drive about a week ago cuz i couldnt get it shut... lol sorry to hear about it man. but just try what i said

slamming does nothing. i feel bad for doing it but it wouldnt even shut with a flying kick to the door. lol

it wont even shut with the window down. i think its somethin to do with the mechanism. i havent checked the trim under n around the door yet because its been too dark.

as far as i know they are fine. they never had any problems before. the only thing i can think of that would have messed em up is me slammin the door so much.

tried it. didnt work.

and i cant drive around holding the door because when i tried that, the autobelt spazzed and woulodnt stop engaging and disengaging. im pretty sure if a cop watched it hed pull me over.

so i just got back from michigan, opened the garage and wouldn't you know it.

my door shuts.so im blaming it on the cold to being the reason my door was giving me issues.

maybe you need to wd-40 the mechanism inside the door

ive heard of guys taking propane torches to their locks when they are frozen, maybe the latch needs to get un-froze

+1 your lock mechanism maybe jamming because it's that cold outside. If the temperature is warmer, the door closes right?

Use some wd-40 as stated, and tell us if it made a difference.
