by medium acceleration....I mean from anywhere from half throttle to right to the kickdown point...right before it would downshift into 2nd

OK, I'll try to get some runs in and look for the 100 rpm drop at 80 mph in third gear, or at 3750 rpm. Thanks.

thanks maxnix for your help...at this point I have just given up and when I visit T3 in the summer.....they will probably be able to tell me whats up with it. I just want to make sure that it is not doing any long term damage for the next 2 months until I can get to T3.

Rob, same thing with my stock 1995 at 61K miles. Somewhere around 3,750-4,000 rpm on mild acceleration in 3rd gear near 80 mph, a slight drop in the tach of 100-150 rpm (need a consult to tell). Almost like the torque converter is trying to lock up in third (Can this occur? I did not think so). Car does not jerk or respond with any hesitation. Since the rpm seems to vary when this occurs, I assume it is something in the TCU programming. It does not seem to occur at WOT. I need to find that airport strip.

A very good observation I would have missed as I am looking at other cars or the bushes at this speed, never the dash. Darn reliable Japanese cars!__________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t & 2000 Q45

maxnix.....ahh many thanks for confirming my mysterious rpm drop problem. It sounds like your car does the exact same thing as my car. Well maybe nothing is wrong with my car at all which would be great.

The dealer said that he thought is was somehow the TC trying to lock or unlock...can't remember and something about it being at 94% when this happens. I also can't duplicate the problem under WOT which I am very thankful for. I just can't believe that it took 6+ years of ownership to notice the funny rpm drop. Maybe it is becuase I am trying to make sure my car is in perfect running condition while I am doing all these mods that I somehow noticed it now.

Thanks again for your time and assistance as it gives me much comfort knowing now that there is probably nothing wrong with the car.

Ill try it on my 94 sometime (when I can find a place where I can go 80ish), as I have a thought that may make a difference on the year.

my 96q,with 133000 miles on it also does this, and has for as long as i can remember, despite 25000 mile mobil synthetic atf changes, since new!being that my q is obd2,and no codes or check engine lamp on, i assume the engine is fine and transmission seems to operate as it did since day one.

thanks guys for all your help as I think that we can put this one to rest...that this rpm drop is normal and nothing is wrong with my car when it does this......thanks again for your support as there is no telling how much monies I would have spent at the dealer having them trying to figure it out.

I tried it today. If you let off the accelerator and give it a bit of gas at like 30 mph i could feel something engaging.

I tihnk whats happening to you is juts on a larger scale, and normal
