Hi, I have a 2001 I30, 85K miles. Yday the battery light got ON bright and parking brake light ON dim. Today, dashboard lights began to flicker when I pressed brake. Also, windows would not go up when button was pressed. Now Check Engine Light is ON and car does not start.

Found here - Battery/Brake light/flicker could be due to bad alternator not charging battery. Check Engine light could be due to O2 and Knock Sensors. Could I have both problems simultaneously and suddenly ? With car not running, I'd be glad to have some ideas.

Definitely sounds like the alternator is involved. The CEL could be related, too (due to sensors getting too-low voltage and not operating right). I'd fix the alternator issue first, and then see if the CEL persists.

Thanks ... Minister of Doom. With car not running, challenge would be an understatement. I'll post details.

Deeper trouble, pls help. 2001 I30, 85K miles. I have replaced Alternator (see earlier prob) and car worked like a charm for a few days. Then suddenly would not crank / not start. I had the Starter replaced and car cranks but does not start. Midas diagnosed it today - the ECM fuse blows out, as soon as its put in place so ECM does not get power. They say its an electrical short and it could be anywhere in the wiring - very difficult to isolate. To replace the entire wiring harness, Midas quoted $2200. Any suggestion would be appreciated.
