Hey guys. Sorry to be a bother, but today, my sunroof button snapped while closing today. Luckily, it snapped right after the roof closed. I was pissed for a bit and then left the car. When I started the car hours later, the roof retracted without my help and is now stuck in the open position. I did a search and found that the roof is able to closed manually with the Allen/Hex key. However, to do so, the trim piece has to come off right? To expose the manual closing mechanism, no?

My main concern is that I do not know the correct way to remove the maplight/switch assembly to expose the mechanism. I don't know if it's held in by clips or something else. I tried pulling and it gave a little, but seemed to be hampered by something. I declined to keep pulling and end up breaking something else. I'm a little bummed because the roof is stuck in the open position. I just checked the weather and it should be dry tonight with temps hitting 92 with a partly cloudy sky. My biggest fear was rain, but it seems that I have some sort of time. I'd like to just get it closed for the moment.

Please. Anyone who can tell how to get to it, it would be a great help. This doesn't require headliner removal right? I looked in the FSM and I found info on complete sunroof disassembly, but nothing that could help me right now. Most likely, in my haste I may have missed it, or looked in the wrong section, but I figure that I'll cover all of my bases by asking the experts as well. It's now 1:38 AM and I'm fervently wishing I had some sort of roof under which I could park my Q.

That trim piece is sort of hanging down in my car, and from what I can see it's just held in place by very narrow plastic pin things. Not sure of a better way to describe it...the trim piece has small plastic pins that stick up into the piece above it. I'm not sure if they're supposed to actually clip into anything or just hold by resistance. Either way, it looks to just pull down, no fasteners to remove first.Be careful pulling it down or you could end up with a sagging trim piece like mine.

In the meantime, if you have to worry about rain, go buy a small tarp and close it in the tops of the doors to hold it in place.

You won't need any tools to remove the sunroof switch surround. The only thing holding it up is the plastic clip (right side in pic) and metal clip (left side in pic). Get your fingertips behind it on the left and right sides and pull straight down. The two black plastic guides along the bottom edge are for alignment when reinstalling the part.

I bought a sunroof switch for my 90Q a few weeks ago from Joe. $49 list, $37 with our discount, plus shipping. P/N 25450-60U00. Don't waste your money buying a used one that may also be close to breaking.

Thanks everyone for the fast replies! I'm going to get this done right after I get back from dropping my MDX at the Acura dealership. You guys are LIFESAVERS!

I have found that a very thin putty knife is a great tool to push that metal clip in on the the passenger side of the switch assembly. Good luck!

Flathead screwdriver works fine too. I have an extra switch if you need HKing.

Hey, I too broke my switch for the sunroof. Would you be willing to sell yours?

I use a credit/library/I.D. card. Works extremely well.

Yessir! I'm debating on whether I should just get one from Joe or pick up on from the board. After getting the clip and pulling the piece off, I saw the simplicity of the whole thing. Even if your switch was to (God Forbid) break on me from my muscular fingers, swapping in a new one is a piece of cake.

How much am I looking at? Shipping to 08046.

I thank everyone on the board for the help with this. Luckily, the day stayed dry. Humid, but no precipitation. I covered the open sunroof before hitting the Acura dealership with two black trash bags cut open, and two comforters. I then secured the plastic in the doors and placed bricks on the corners. Held up well. I scraped the holy hell out of my knuckles getting that damn roof closed manually.

I must say, I'm quite disappointed with Acura. The very cute Service Attendant (Michelle) told me that it was against policy to give me a copy of the service history for the vehicle, even though I now currently own it. I can only have the info on service during my tenure of ownership. I'll be seeing her again Tuesday, hopefully I can entice her to just hit that print button.

I heart Infiniti.
