Hi, first time poster here, My goal is for my SR20DET is to produce about 550 crankshaft horsepower for drifting while keeping is streetable running on San Diego's Premium 91-octane (lol) gas. I am wondering what you recommend for these items: Exhaust system (not too loud, prob w/silencer), brakes (prob have to do some converting maybe used parts from 300ZX or S14?), ECU, Clutch (Multidisc?), flywheel, driveshaft, Turbo (save this for last, want to upgrade everything first before this), Intercooler with plumbing, suspension (ideal maybe more that 6kg front, 4.8kg rear spring rate, or just get fully adjustable), Internal parts ( pistons, rods, crankshaft, valve and spring, etc.), Intake, cam gear, cam shaft, fuel components (pumps, lines, injectors, etc.), cooling system (radiator, fan, oil cooler, water injector system, etc.), ignition system, engine management control, controllers/timers (boost, turbo, egt, etc.) gauges, limited slip differential, gaskets, BOV, pulleys, throttle body, and waste gate. And I have some more questions: What are the pros and cons engine balancing, port polish, and using a stroker kit? What gains should I see using the stroker kit? Should I balance the engine after all the parts are installed (the internals)? And is there any kits to disable the HICAS system on the Nissan(it's one of the ways to get the factory LSD)? Thanks! please e-mail me at [email protected]

Wow, that's a lot of questions to answer, lemme break it down for ya...

1) 550hp more than likely isn't possible on pump gas with the SR2)Exhaust, go with Greddy DD or N1 Dual, you won't have a quiet exhaust that supports the power you are lookin at making.3) 300zx brakes are sufficient, search for more info on this4) Uhh, dunno bout ECU. You should probably go with a Haltec or Power FC if you are really going for the power you say you are.5) Dunno bout clutch, Nismo 3-puck perhaps?6) Dunno bout flywheel7) Get a shop there in town to make you an aluminum driveshaft, or buy one from Enjuku Racing for $4008) I don't even know what kind of turbo you would have to run to get that kind of hp, a frikin big one would be sufficient (but it would suck for drifting) Maybe go with CTC's turbo kit, it can net you over 400 on race gas no problem with decent spool and excellent top end.9) I hear the Blitz intercoolers are nice, or just custom fab one (go to CTC motorsports website and find out more info on intercoolers)10) You will want something stiffer than 6/5 for drifting, trust me on this one. Look into the Tein RA's or JIC FLT-A2's with custom spring rates and valving. You will also need adjustable T/C rods (I recommend battle version), adjustable rear arms (BV again), solid subframe bushings (or at least whiteline pineapples), Swaybars (whiteline or cusco), STB's, and various other bits and pieces.11) Dunno bout internals. Possibly tomei cams, some RAS, HKS springs, some sleeves, and your choice of pistons and rods12) A good ole homemade intake with a K&N cone will work fine, my friend has one and he is supprting over 300rwhp.13) Tomei cams and cam gears14) Get a 300zx or walborow FP, ss braided lines, 75# injectors, etc...15) Fluidyne Radiator, FAL fans, Blitz oil cooler, dunno bout water injection (but there are supras in dallas making over 700rwhp with some alcohol injection)16) Haltec should take care of ignition17) Haltec again for engine management18) Haltec can do boost control and timing and what not19) defi gauges20) Kaaz, Cusco or Nismo S.S.S LSD fo sho!21) dunno bour gaskets22) Tial BOV23) dunno bout pulleys24) dunno bout TB (possible individual? but stock should work)25) Tial or HKS wastegate

26) Balancing = good stuff27) Port and Polish = good stuff (if done correctly)28) dunno bout stroker kit29) Balance after everything30) yes you can disable the hicas, somebody makes some sleves that go in there to stop it from doing anything, or you could just get a non hicas car and go from there (you aren't gonna want the factory VLSD anyway)

hope that helps some...

For drifting, you probly wouldn't need more than 300 HP.. 550 is insane especially for a steetable daily driver.

Dont plan on being quiet with 550 HP. Get larger piping than 3 inches. ECU will have to be aftermarket, probably ApexI power FC or HKS Fcon will be fine. Any flywheel like a JUN one will be fine. Driveshaft will probably have to be custom.

Unless your really lacking in the skills department I doubt you would need 550 HP to lose traction and drift. If your going for a straight drifter look at maybe 350 RWHP for a good streetable, drifting, ride. 550 would probably not be streetable on an SR since I dont think you'll want to put extra wear and tear on a race engine.

I think maybe 350hp-400hp would be okay. What do I need to do to make my transmission stronger to hold up with this power. What kind of PSI should I be looking to run. I plan on using mostly 91-octane and maybe some race gas. Thanks.

550 is waaay overkill for drifting, even if that was realistic for an SR. Even for drag, you might actually have a hard time getting 550hp to the ground in a 240. Even the best pro drifters in Japan rarely get close to 400 horsepower. Its not necessarily how much power you have, but where you have it and how you use it. Drift cars need to have tough engines and must be able to redline regularly, so beef it up nicely. IMO, if you want a big power car for drifting, build up you head, and block if you still think you need a ton of power. Use a medium A/R ball bearing turbo like an HKS GT 2835 with .64 A/R for decent spool. You'd probably wana run about 21psi of boost. Add a stainles tubular manifold to that too. You should probably get an oil cooler, and a thick aluminum radiator too. Tomei makes a 2.2l stroker kit, but even JIC's drift car that uses it blew it up. I don't think you really need all that much. Obviously we all want the ultimate setup, but be realistic and keep it simple-just get good, important parts, not as many parts as possible. HKS sells SR transmission kits. I dunno much about them, but I'm sure they're built pretty tough. Pretty expensive though, like $7-9k. Give them a call. Regarding suspension, adjustability is key. You'll want to be able to dial in your damping and rebound rates pretty specifically if you are pumping out as much power as you are after.
