A while ago I bought a set of OEM Nissan 5 stars that were taken off of a 2000 Maxima for my I30. The center caps were Nissan and the dealer wanted $25 a piece for the matching Infiniti center caps.

Well I ended up finding 4 center caps on ebay for a total of $15 but the problem is they are a chrome color and my rims are more of a silver color. So the Infiniti center caps don't look right. I was hoping to paint them the correct color but I don't know if I can paint match the paint they used on the rims. Is there a way to do this?

If you wanted to it correctly, it would cost you much more than the $100 for the OEM caps. At least $40 for paint matching and silver paint. $20-$30 for the clear coat. Then there's trying to find a painter willing to do such a small job. If you did, I would think he would charge you at least a $50-$100 and you would lucky if the final job closly matched the color of the rims. (matching paint is not that easy, but silver is somewhat eaiser).

You could as ways try to DIY and try just to find a can of spray paint the comes close to matching. But I would think it more trouble than it is worth because chances are it would be an obvious mismatch of shades of silver.

Best bet, is to be patient and try to find a matching set of caps on Ebay or just pay the $100.

I painted the plastic center caps on my 91 SE-R using aluminum paint, the match was pretty good, better than the raw plastic color underneath that was showing through.

Try it at least, if it's horrible, you can always redo it or buy the right ones.

Thanks for the replys. I put them in the wheels and I think I'm just going to leave them the way they are for now. At least they don't still say Nissan, that was driving me crazy. They actually don't look that bad but I'm going to keep checking ebay just in case I see the right set. Thanks.
