need help or opinions...new to forum

What up everybody? I'm in the market of buying an Infiniti. I love the way they look and have always wanted one. I'm not taking the step and am ready to purchase the car I've always wanted. Unfortunately I can't afford a brand new Infiniti...and personally I prefer the older body style anyways. I need to know what you think of these cars. For those of you who know prices and what these cars are worth, let me know your honest opinion before I make the wrong move.

- 2006 G35 sedan with 36,000 miles asking $21,500...it has the standard options, no sunroof..one owner, mint condition.

-2005 G35 sedan with 17,000 miles asking $25k, but willing to negotiate. This car I test drove and loved. both are private owners. car was in great condition, but had a few nicks, scratched tinted window in the front, a few minor scratches that could be buffed out, leather needs cleaning, and one rim is duffed up. this car has sunroof, bose sound system, all leather pckg.

So are either of these good deals? Which one would you say is the better deal? I just want to know if I should wait around for something better, or if one of these deals is something I should not pass up on. I know I can check kbb, but really that doesn't mean much. please give me some input ot help me out. I'd like to hear from people that know these cars and know what is worth the money. I personally for sure would not buy one with scratches and screwed up wheels,etc. If the owner did not car how it looks probably did not care much of the car.

Sedan vs coupe. It is your decision. We can't make that for you. If it doesn't matter 2 door and less cargo, etc Than buy a coupe.

I do reference KBB quite a bit.When buying used cars I like to buy below Private Party Good if possible.Private Party Good if it's in super shape and the color I want.I would never pay KBB Full Retail. Good Luck!!

The one with scratches is questionable. There better be some real nice "negotiating" to make it worth your while.

With my coupe. I test drove it when it was owned by the original owner, but he wanted too much and wouldn't let me drive it that day. I ended up buying it from a used dealer for less.

I calculated the cost of replacing the tires, brakes, and cleaning the interior. He adjusted for it and the price dropped close to 2k.

Here is something to consider- Do you like the way the Bose sounds? If not, there's a couple grand not worth paying for.

Do you want a sunroof? I personally wish I had one, but I'm not thrilled about the Bose and the Nav is just icing, not a necessity.

Check brakes, run a Carfax, check alignment (a test drive will do it). Check doors for VINs, if they're missing, they were replaced. Check oil LEVEL. You might even be able to get a local dealership to give you the service records for the car.

People are desperate to unload their debt right now, be ruthless!!! muahahahaha.

The Nissan dealer here has Sunroofs & leather added to some of their NEW cars cause it's cheaper than the packages. My mother-in-law got a new Altima that they had done this to.And, it had a Lifetime warranty on the sunroof.And, it had an auto close feature when you turned off the engine.If I wanted a sunroof, I would get one added.Actually, I hardly ever use the one in my G.

Frankly, if you have to consider every single fact as Mr. Sentient is presenting, you will end up being more confused and less likely to make a sound decision about buying either the car. There is research that shows that too much choice can really lead to no choice at all. The fact of the matter is that sometimes, something has to give and you have to decide what it is you are willing to give becasue the car is already used.

If body choice is your first basis for decision, and since the G-35 is a no-frills version, then maintenance records and how much you can pocket/save, should be the overiding basis for decision making.

All the other stuff about how one was able to knock off 2k form their cost is total BS . There are people who have checked out cars on one day and end up with trouble the next day. Stuff happens. And if you have to check maintenance, spend time on engine and transmission maintenance above all else. You will need to know that generally, maintenance costs money, especially for a luxury vehicle.

My advice is for you to avoid pessimism by a few on this forum. That pesimism will make you not make the decision you would already have made in the first place. Check for carfax records as well. Even then, be careful, as some carfax records can be inaccurate as well, contrary to the advice provided by a few here.

Other things to consider....CARFAX for sure. I would not consider a car that has lived in the North.Crawl under the car to check & see if bolts are rusty. Check bolts in the engine bay as well.

I check the stuff Nate mentioned above too.

I also check the bolts on the panels to see if they have been turned or to ensure they are in their original place. Look inside the door jams where the panels come together. See if the paint looks original there or at least consistant with the other side..
