hi i just got a transmission from a 1992 Q with 80k miles on it. It has been tested and everything ready to be put in my 1992 Q45. I just got one question which ecu should i put in the car. The one that starts in second gear or first gear. I got both right now but don't know which to go for. I will eventually put in the nico ecu but first i want to see the car move. Thanks

Actually you mean to say TCU: Transmission Control Unit, If you have a early 1993 Q45 TCU then use that because it starts out in first grear which is far eaiser on the transmisson, but worse in the snow which should'nt be a problem for you.

But how do you know that the transmission is in good shape?

What was the color and smell of the fluid?

How much did you get it for?

What is wrong with your current transmission?

Do you know what is required and how many things can go wron in installing a transmisson?

Other than the above have a Happy Holiday, Paul

Thanks for your help paul and have a merry christmas

I paid $320 for it with a 3 month warranty.

This is what happen, the old engine piston's were all shooting 20 psi and only one was shooting 120 psi. The car then sat for 4 yrs inside the garage. was well maintained (body and paint) but never worked on. my parents evetually gave it to me for my first car. (I know i bet this is the first time you hear a 16 year old with a Q45 but thats how it is. I like it better than any honda i can afford like civis or accords, i really don't like honda's because to many people steal them here in orlando and there is nothing but ricers with big exhaust with no go in orlando, the only honda cars i like are the NSX and S2000 but those cost a lot LOL) Like i was saying they gave me the car i put a 50k mile engine it but when i put it in the transmission the car didnt move (the wheels only moved in the air but once the wheels hit the ground there was no action. I took it to transmission shops and they told me the cylinoids went bad in the transmission for sittin so long. And on installing it i got that covered i go to a technical institute for automotive where i got access to state of the art equipment (like lifts, tire machines etc) and laptops that have every component of every car even 2009 cars. The software shows my car's breakdown (engine, transmission, suspension etc.), but thanks for the concern. I already took the engine out 3 times because i thought i made a mistake the first time when the car didn't move but i evetually found out that the transmission was bad due to yrs of sittin. I love my infiniti Q45 because its a car i dont see a lot. I like it so much that i got two, one as a project which is the red one and black one (98 Q45t ) as a nice cruiser.

The black 98 Q45t (I know i need to get some thicker tires but these thin ones are just temporary since they came with the 18 inch rims i bought from a person who was moving in a hurry. i paid $350 for them with tires that have 75% tread left)[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

I know i know i will take off the chrome wheelbase trim that the car has the problem is that the screws are so rusty that they dont want to come off and the paint might be faded underneath so i will wait till the time comes to repaint this car. With that said even with the brutal sun here in florida the car's original paint has stayed in good shape. The car originally was always a florida car when bought new by the first owner.

Have you done a transmission flush at all to see if it helps?

I would do two of them but leave a 1000 mile gap between them.

Wow great to know that yopu have taken the engine out of the Q45 some of us dread removing the plenum and here you a 16 year old have removed the entire engine-Congrats to that.

And I have had a 1991 Q45 as my first car, that car was great and I picked it out my self, I remmber my dad looking under and saying "it has a live axle".

And ricers are like bugs, You will always find them every where.

Merry Christmas to you too.

LOL yea they are like bugs especially here in orlando which i call honda city, in junk yards when i look for my Q for parts i see nothing but hondas but with nothing in them. They are eaten alive (literally) nothing in or out of them just the skeleton of the chassis. And yea i tried to flush it. Everything you can think of i did and i was like damn i was so close to be done with the project but thats how it goes sometimes. This car really is a high priced maintaince car the parts are expensive, but i still get them i just work hard for them. I love working on my Q thats why i'm in a technical institute (which rivals UTI). I want to be a auto technician, and automotive engineer so i need to know this kind of stuff. I really specialize in nissan cars since my whole family has one. LOL

Oh yea taking that engine out required a lot of patience that was a mission the first two times but the third time seem to get easier since i knew where everything went. Some of my friends look at the car and say they rather not mess with a car like that since everything is hard to take out in one shot but i did eventually do it (3 times). I will post up some pix of the up coming project that i will do putting in the good transmission and finally finishing this project.

What school do you go to?

Does your school have a consult?

Have you read the FSM to see if any of the symptoms your having match any in the FSM?

And yea they are real pain to maintain but they are worth it.

Here some pics of the facility mostly cars but two pics of how it looks this is the room where we do engine breakdown. The garage is way bigger than that. I just dont have a pic of the main garage area where there is 10 to 12 lifts on each side. Its like a dealership garage. 10 to 12 lifts on one side and 10 to 12 on the other.

Here the pics

Cool shop.

So what kind of diagnostic equipment do they use?

I think you said something about being able to monitor the transmission, engine and more.

Yea i just love going every day there man its like a little kid going to a candy shop. that 1st pic of me was me breaking down a Scion TC motor. Thats why i kinda looked serious because my friend caught me off guard when i was seriously breaking it down. I eventually rebuit it. U see that machine in the 1st pic in front of that black lexus LX470 suv in the back. That tests engine with out it being in the car, real cool. Yea we got these $10k laptops that run everything in the car. I already took my black Q there check it out because it had a check engine light on so i hooked my car up to the laptop ran everything since the advance timing was good, the temperature in the motor was good, but i remember in my owners manual that when the check engine light stays on and doesnt blink in the Y33 Q45 it means its a emission problem. so i went to the emission part of program and there i found it, one of the o2 sensors wasnt working the one right next to the cataylic on the passenger side. got that fix. The black one only has 63,000 miles so i didnt expect it to be something big.

Yo Paul do you still have that dark green Q45 you were parting out?

Because im trying to look for a spoiler lip for the red one. U know that spoiler that looks like its part of the trunk?

It doesnt matter if its green because i not only got a mechanic shop here in MFT but also an auto body garage where they paint cars which i got some friends in that program. MFT is cool man it also has a welding shop and another big shop where they work on diesel motors like school buses and big trucks. Those garages are freakin huge man i think almost or even bigger than the automotive garage because they got to fit these big trucks to work on them. really a cool environment if your a gear head like me

Actually the green one is my current one which I will never part out.

But I don't have the rear spoiler either sorry and the one I am parting out is green.

Do you need anything else at all??

no not really man that was something i have been looking for. everytime i go to the junk yard all they have are Q's with no spoilers. I heard the rear brake light is on the spoiler instead on the inside behind the rear seats, looks like i need to do some rewiring.

i put a lot of money into the car i probably will get the spoiler down the road because i just like how it looks sporty but not to exagerrating.I'm glad you helped me on the tcu thing man because i have been reading threads and some people say switch the ecu will change the car from starting in 2nd to first i was kinda of confused thanks for helping me. i think i read somewhere some where in 1993 it started in first gear dont really know the date. is it faster acceleration if i put the 1st gear tcu in? is that what u have oh wait my bad you are in MA which snows up there so u probably dont. U got TCS on you Q cause i don't on my black Y33 yes but my G50 no
