I already sat here for 20min for the search and I get mixed feedbacks from the search....

my car is boosting at 15psi in a hot socal weather. I understand -11 means .044 and without the -44 means .036. I understand the 5, 6, 7 is the heat range but I am lost as to which one it is that I need...

At 15 psi that's a little tough to say for sure what heat range to go with...6 or 7 for sure. NOT 5.

IX are irridiums and take an assload of heat but there have been stories of the tips blowing off the plug.

You don't want the -11 because that's too much of a gap for boosted application.

I'd say go for BKR6EIX...if you start to notice detonation that you just can't tune out safely go with BKR7EIX.

I got BKR6EIX if you go to sparkplugs.com they can give you which application those plugs are for and you will see that its for SR20DETs..

Besides, where I live, 80% of the time its snowing so I didnt want to get 7 so I stuck with 6 and I also plan to run 15 psi.

it seems like the 7 is more beneficial as far as removing unwanted heat is concerned... so why don't everyone just run the 7 heat range?

is there a drawback of running 7 as opposed to 6? such as loss of power?

lastly, how long are the recommended (by you guys, not manufateur) interval between replacement? providing they didn't break prematurely

Going too cold will cause the plug to foul quickly, possible misfire and cause damage to the engine in the long run.

My STi came with 6 heat range plugs and the boost level, stock was 14.5 psi. I only changed to 7 heat range when I started running > 20 psi.

This tends to make me say stick with a 6.

And how often to change out is very hard to determine. Check your plugs after ever oil change and look for signs of early fouling and detonation.
