i have a couple of questions for all the sr owners here. I am just wondering if you guys experienced in owning and running a hx, garrett, precision, and turbonetics turbo setup i am curious because, my 2871r took a s*** on me and now i am shopping for my better options. i was looking into the t3/t4 hybrids just wondering when boost kicks in at as well. but i am looking for a turbo that can produce well over 400+ just because i like to have a little room to play with in the future and a spool time between 3000 - 4000 rpm. I just need your expertise to assist on helping me shop for a turbo pretty much. your assistance will be much appreciated because i would like to decide on which turbo to get if someone has stats on spool time, hp rating, and experience with your setup, every information is needed.

I would not ever purchase a garrett or precision ball bearing turbo, they are notorious for failing as seen with your 2871R. Turbonetics has an awesome 1 year no fault warranty and Holsets are great budget turbos if you can pick a good on up used. When it comes time for me to upgrade my turbo I will be going with a Comp Turbo in either ball bearing or journal. They make a great product and also have a good warranty. Their ball bearing assemblies are made in Germany which is more than I can say for Garrett/Precision and Turbonetics. FWIW I worked at a turbocharger repair/rebuild shop for 3 years.

Comp Turbos are triple ceramic ball bearing vs Garrett/Precision dual bb and Turbonetics single ceramic ball bearing. Their ball bearing turbos have two ball bearing assemblies on the exhaust side and one on the compressor side. The two on the exhaust side are designed to withstand any thrust load you can throw at it which means you'll be able to run more boost reliably. If you ever have a problem with a Garrett turbo, good luck trying to get a warranty claim out of them. Comp Turbo is a much smaller company based out of California so their customer support is wayyy better.

Their journal bearing turbos are around $700 for T3/T4 and $1100 for T3/T4 ball bearing. Call one of their master distributors and see if you can haggle on the pricing.

what is the spool time on the t3/t4 turbos and needing something around the 400hp range. i am just in a bind on trying to find a turbo for the car and also need something reasonable in my price range and 700 don't sound that bad at all for that brand turbo.

I'd be going with the new Tomei turbo.

Tomei has always been top of the line for everything. You'll never hear ANYTHING bad about them. As far as their turbo itself, I have no clue what it has going for it, but I'm sure it's full of win.

Tomei's turbos are based off of a Mitsubishi design. They (their supplier) make great turbos but tend to be overpriced for what you get. I currently have S15 T28 and will either go with Mitsubishi based turbo or Comp Turbo when (and it will) this turbo gives out.

Precision 60-1, journal bearing, good for 400HP +. saw a SR at track that ran 10.4 in 1/4 with it
