Im in the process of a 5 spd swap, and after i drilled the holes for the clutch pdeal to go in, i noticed something strange. Inside my car, where the holes i just drilled are, are two metal tubes sticking out, directly above the two holes for the clutch pedal bolts to go through. So the bolts would have to go through this tube and out the hole to the other side of the firewall. The weird thing is that, on the clutch pedal (which is an s14 pedal by the way, im installing it into my s13... people on here said they were interchangeable)... well on the clutch pedal, there are also two metal tube thingies surrounding part of the bolts, so when i insert it into the holes, the tubes on the clutch pedal and the tubes on the car get in the way of each other, making the bolts too short to even be seen on the other side of the firewall. i originally thought one tube would be bigger than the other, so that when connected, one would just be placed right into the other one. But after i tried several times, the tubes seem to be the same size, therefore block each other from going in farther. I asked other friends who did the swap but they said they didnt see any tubes... maybe they didnt know what i was talking about? lol...

could anyone please help me on this? would i have to cut the tubes off either the car or the clutch pedal to make it fit? or is there some trick to this that i dont know about? please help!!!

the tubes on the clutch pedal and the ones in the car hit each other, not letting the bolts go through far enough to even be seen on the other side of the firewall..

welll i checked out how the tubes were on the clutch pedal, and it seems like it was welded onto it. not like someone modified it, but like how it originally came. i dont get why nissan would put it on there. it only makes the bolt shorter and unable to clear the firewall to get to the other side. maybe s14's need them??i checked out my friend's s13, and it didnt have any of those tubes at all. the clutch pedal came directly in contact with the firewall. so would this mean i would have to cut off the tubes on my firewall? it's rather strange.. i called everyone who has a 5 spd and no one seems to have any of these tubes on their car, even if they used to be an automatic. someone please help!!!

It's ok. You need to drill the holes through those a bit larger to get the pedal through there. No worries.

yea but im just REALLY confused as to why theyre there, what they're used for, and how they got there in the first place. NO ONE that owns a 240 has seen any of these things on their car, even if they own an automatic. I mean, there has to be a reason theyre there. I'm just afraid that I might need them for something, and by cutting them off i might just damage something.

They help keep the pedal level and to where it's supposed to go.

I have them and I've seen them in other cars I've converted over to a standard transmission. Don't freak out if you've got them, but don't cut them off either.

OHHHH.... well it turns out that my clutch pedal, which i got from an s14, came with a spacer that was necessary to make it fit into the s14 chassis because there aren't any of these "tubes" on the s14s. As with the s13, on the other hand, there were no tubes on the pedal itself, but there are two on the chassis. I also figured that these "tubes" are really guides for the studs. So because I have them welded on my clutch pedal, which isnt supposed to be there for the s13, I have to cut them off in order to make it fit.

So to reply to the guys who told me that the s13 and s14 clutch pedals interchange, yes they do, but for the s13 to fit into the s14, you would need a spacer (these tubes), and for the s14 to fit into the s13, you would need to take off this spacer (it's welded on, so just cut it off). woila!! thanks for all the help everyone!!

sorry if i dont make sense, i just woke up
