I want to buy some 17's for my coupe and im not sure what widths fit that won't eventually require any modification to the fenders when I throw some coilovers on it i was thinking about 17x8 or 17x9 if possible and I know I won't have it that low since I'm paranoid that the exhaust is going to get scraped off.

Either should fit fine, I run 17x8 up front and 17x9 in the back. Depending on tire size, offsets, and how low it is, of course, you shouldn't have much problem with anything scraping.

such as vague question.

You'll need to know offset and tire sizes before determining the fitment of wheels.

not all 17x8's with random tires fit the same

go for 17x9 and man it up! but you need to pick your offset correctly.
