I had dented the side of my 91 Q45. I had an itenerant body repair guy fix it. He did a good job taking hte dents out. He matched the paint OK too. But he did not put on a clear coat. Is there something I coud do? Get some acryic clear spray?

Not really DIY-clearcoat needs to go on within a short time after applying basecoat and is a catalyzed. Take it back.

Your might be able to apply clearcoat over the existing finish if you know what kind of paint it is and you got the matching clearcoat from a paint supplier. You would make sure any wax was removed, then slightly rough it up with some rubbing compound and then followup with some liquid sand paper or adhesion promoter, and then the clearcoat. An automotive paint supplier would have these items. I'm not sure a body shop would do this because they probably couldn't warranty the results.

What color is it? I removed a key scratch last year from my RR quarterpanel, mine is black (can't tell it happened now). On second thought, I'd have to show you,( wet sanding w/a block, air brush technique, which epoxy/primer/sealer to use, using pretty aggressive compound by hand, proper spray can procedure for the clear which must be UV resistant, more wet sanding w/#2000 grit, then machine buffing from heavy to light). I could try to walk you through it, but the risks are great if you have never done it! Can you post a picture of the area? PS Which year/color E55 do you have? Any issues? I've been looking at them.

Thanks Denver and Squeefoo. My Infiniti is desert silver. I have not treated it too well over the years and getting something resonabe is adequate. I am not sure what is an automotive paint store. Something ike Autozone? I woud need it in a spray can and Chicago does not allow their sale.

My E55 is Pewter. No problems with it so far. It is dream to drive.

But I am keeping my Q. It has been a good car and in its day a dream to drive. It still drives good but times have changed.

I bet it has more to do with huffing or grafitti than environmental issues. Can't buy 134a? If I ever hear a good rumor of that I'll be buying it up in cases! A certain stockpile of R12 has been a godsend!

My E55 is an 04.

I have hand wet sanded. Many years ago used various sanders buffer and the like.
