I needed to replace my rear break pads and rotors and everything was going fine until it was time to compress the piston and I can't turn it. Is it supposed to be very difficult to retract. I am using needle noise plyers. I have never changed the rear break pads before is there anything I should know, and could there be a problem?

You need to loosen (not take off) your brake master cylinder cap.

You also need to buy a special tool (approx 5$) from Auto Zone,Oreilley. It looks like a cube and has raised dots on each side tocatch the caliper. It should go onto a 3/8" ratchet since it has a square opening on each side of the cube.

You might also check at Auto Zone or ORielleys about their toolrental. You put the tool kit on your credit card and when you bringit back you get a full refund. I know they have some brake toolkits to rent.

The FSM says you can use pliers but it is just too hard to. Dont giveup your nearly there

bought that cube tool and is a pos. I did get it turn a little but not alot. Rented the other tool from autozone but none of the attachments fit. I feel like everything that I do on this car turns out to be more of a pain than is should.

No. Just make sure the lid you take off to put brake fluid in isloose. Otherwise there is too much pressure in the line and the caliper gear cant be turned with the ratchet and tool.

I am able to turn it using my breaker bar, but that little cube thing keeps slipping. Should I just keep going, I feel like it shoulden't be this hard, maybe I'm wrong.

It is pretty hard to do, especially trying to hold the caliper and turnthat wheel at the same time. Try your best to keep the rubbercover out of the way the best you can. You have to push downon the cube tool while turning at the same time. You might have tohave somebody hold the caliper for you. Be sure to not let your caliperjust hang off the car. You should wire it up to keep the hose fromstretching.

After breaking 2 of those cubes I got new calipers. Any recommendations on what break fluid I should use?

If you are starting with a brake system with no fluid, I would gowith synthetic brake fluid since in does not absorb as much waterlike regular brake fluid.

If you still have oil fluid in there, then just add the manufacturersequivalent. You can buy it at Walmart rather than the dealer
