Hi All,

I have an issue with a 2000 I30t that I could use some advice on. The info on the problem is listed below. Thanks in advance for any help trying to figure out what the problem is.

INFO:Over the winter, the heat on the car would not blow hot air when the car was standing still. Every red light the car would blow cold air. When the car was running around 45mph continuously, it would blow warm air until I slowed down again. My brother-in-law said at the time if I overheat in the summer, it could be an issue with the water pump. This summer, took the car on a 10hr drive and the temp engine temp crept up to the top at the end of the drive when sitting in a parkinglot with the AC on. This happened both there and back. I have not had any other over heating problems since with 2+hr drives. Anyone have an idea about what the issue might be? I have the feeling that they might be related due to what my brother-in-law said

Thanks

Sounds like a thermostat to me. Get that replaced and maybe look into draining your cooling system and refilling it.

Thanks for the response. Would that be the one near the waterpump? Is there any way to confirm if that part is having problems?

On a side note, I tested the heat today on my way home from work. I set it to 85 degress while going 50 on a long stretch of road. The air coming out of the vents got so hot it feelt like you could eventually burn my hand. It cooled off when stopped at a light. Not sure if that changes the prognosis any

if that doesn't work get a flush with done with a machine. before you get it all done and start overheating on the road crank the heater and fan all the way - you'll bake but might save your engine. just gonna have to stop and let it cool down running max heat - engine running.
