Hey guys, I've spent awhile searching google about this, but havent really found out anything usefull.I've been on the CA forum for a while, so thought I'd see if the NICO lot could help me.

I have a 1970 Datsun 1600 with a CA18DET in it.I have just converted my rear diff to a R200 VLSD.Datsuns had uni-joint shafts from factory, and the R200 VLSD runs CV shafts.I now have the rear end pretty much done, with the diff mounted, and a CV joint coupled to both the diff and the outter hub.

what I need help with, is how to determine what length I need to make the shafts?

I am using an R30 skyline outter CV, and the axles that came with that are way too long, so custom length is definately neccesary.

BOTH the inner and the outter CV are the tripod type of joint that has a spring inside to accommodate for the change in length of driveshaft as the suspendsion moves.both have 50mm of travel from min to max.

What Im thinking, is that I should set up the CV joints to be in the centre of the yolk/housing when the hub is parrallel with the diff, so that it has approx 25mm travel either side of this.

OR.....should I set it up so that the CV joints are at the longest possible length with the axle parrallel, since from there, if the suspension moves up or down, it will need the axle longer?

any sugestions appreciated!

CheersDan

Set it wherever it is when it is stock.

I'm assuming that you would want to have it set in the middle when the car is static, so that you have room for movement for both compression and rebound travel.

As I said.....its not stock, so I cant set it where it was stock.

But yeah, the middle was what I was thinking
