I just picked up a 92 240sx, Ive owned a **** load of em. anyway, I got a good deal on this one and I thought I knew what was wrong with it. The guy said it wouldnt rev past 2500RPM, so I thought Oh, MAFS....not the case. The car seems to bog all the way up to around 2000-2200rpm, and just woulnt rev any more. It is spitting out a little bit of white smoke, but its not really that bad. I changed the MAFS- TPS- checked timing- Compression test was good- Checked the computer and got a code (55) All is good..... Im stumped, Any help Please...What to do next.

did you check the mafs circuit with a volt meter? its acting like the maf is not even plugged in. This leads me to think the wiring has an issue. Check for battery voltage to it, check to make sure the ground is less then .2v and check to be sure you are getting a mafs signal on the signal line. This check should be done at the maf and at the ecm signal line. The maf should also be plugged in when you do this check.

Ill check the voltage, ground, and signal, But I have another 240, and I unplugged the MAFS and it revs up to 2500 fine, then the RPMs bounce around like hitting a rev limiter. ( dosent seem to bog like the other car, and the bad car dosent bounce around, thats why I didnt think it was the MAFS. I check thanks.

I don't want this to sound bad or anything, but did you check your spark plugs? I know that at one point my plugs were so bad that my car wouldn't rev up past 1500... sounds really simple but you might want to check them out (if you haven't already)

Yea, I checked the plugs when I did the compression test, they were fine.

I also checked the MAF wiring today and all seems to be good.Any other suggestions? Thanks

The only thing that I can think of is that the ECU is not recieving a signal from the MAF... did you check just check the MAF? or did you check the ECU also to see if it was recieving the signal from the MAF? I know that the FSM says which pin is the one for the MAF

Hey, Its not the MAFS or wiring, Could it have anything to do with the messed up transmission? The car has no reverse or (neutral position- that I can push it in) I didnt think of it before, Im going to swap it RHD & 5 speed anyway. I dont really think that this would do it, but i dont know. Could it be sticking valves? Any other recomendations?
