I just put a new head/gasket on my ka24de(s14) in my 91, the results were as follows #1-195 #2-(205-210) #3(205-210) #4 (205-210) this sounds a little high to me from other results ive seen. btw- I ran the test throttle open with all plugs out.

Was there a lot of carbon buildup noticeable?

It is high. Maybe the tester is off a bit, or maybe not. Did you use a stock head gasket? It's more important the numbers are grouped nice and tight like they are. Measure it again after a few thousand miles, with a different tester if possible.

its not so high that you'll need only 92 octane. :P

but...... i cant really think of what would make it that high. valves adjusted right? how many cycles you pumping when you read?

that could cause the idle issues but not the compression. Try it again maybe the gauge was off.

on a funny sidenote in an attempt to set my timing properly we cranked the car quite a few times when it was 180 degrees off, and when we corrected the timing my car backfired and my muffler literally blew up.... anyone ever heard of this?
