I'm planning to buy the Boss BASS600. Its only 3in high and I'm going to place it under my seat. Is a 12 gauge enough power? Also where to connect the 12 gauge? the radio power?

For 400 watts RMS, I believe you'll need at least an 8 gauge wire, like the ones for amp kits... I've never seen this item before.. ok just read the desciption... it has a built in amplifier...

you def need an 8 gauge amp kit... get one that uses Oxygen Free Copper off of ebay! http://cgi.ebay.com/ROCKFORD-F...wItem

I would be amazed if that was actually 400w especially because they make no claims as to how it was measured. I've played with an older Pioneer version and it was OK but nothing to write home about.

Not the best choice for equipment, but deffinatley compact. As said before, an 8 gauge kit should sufficient enough. You run your power wire directly to the battery. Also the biggest part you should worry bout is the ground. Find a flat piece of metal under the seat and sand it down to shiny metal and attached your ground to that.

15 People who bought this item gave it 4 or 5 stars. It must be good for the size. The only 3in compact sub i seen so far is the Kenwood KSC-SW10 and the Blaupunkt THb 200A. The Kenwood just has bad rating but the Blaupunkt also has 4 or 5 stars but cost double of the Boss.

Found this review on NewEgg (i shop for all my PC stuff here.. never realized they sold Car Electronics...)

"Boss's web site says it is 400 watts RMS, instructions it is packaged with says 200 watts RMS. The remote blue LED is too bright. I installed it in the ash try so I can't see it."

Hmm... Im thinking that the sub is 200 rms, 400 peak. even still, thats very very high for this kind of subwoofer. there are 10's and 12's out there that get that much. but in my mind theres no way that can get 400 rms, the website must not have checked. so plan for 400 peak power, so the 8 gauge cable is fine.

Hmm. I just checked the site. It lists the power as 400 rms, 600 continuous. If thats true, then the built in amplifier must be really inefficient. With an 8 inch woofer and a magnet smaller than our stock speaker magnets, this must be running really hot and losing lots of power. I wouldnt put this under a seat if I were you. It sounds like it needs lots of ventilation.

Sorry that I havnt been updating on this subject. I received the Boss Bass600 like 3 weeks ago but havnt had the time to install it yet.

Is there a post for running the wires? This is going to be my first time installing amp wires so I dont wanna mess up.

Well here are photos of how it fits:

Under passenger side: It will not fit under non-power seats!

Under Driver side: It will fit under the driver side but only on the up right position but will not be totally hidden. I'm 5'10 and that is how much room is left in the back if i adjust my seat to my sitting position which is not to far back but not to far up.

Yea, but 3 people are still seated comfortably. I just had myself and two other friends sit in the back on a trip and i didnt really notice the sub on the floor.

It took me like 4 hours to set this up, i am a beginner so you might take less time. The hardest part was going through the firewall with the 8 gauge.

I have to say, the sub bumps HARD for an 8 inch!! I'm really impress with the outcome. If you dont want a sub box wasting your trunk space then this is the way to go!! Ill post up some sounds clip of this when i have the time.
