I had something wrong with the audio system of the 1994 J30: the whole system including CD, radio and tape doesn't work suddenly. Here is the email from the first owner:

"this happened to me a couple times a few years agoduring the start of winter, and then stopped from then on.There must be aloose or corroded power or ground connectionon the head unit in the dash. Ifound that to temporarily solve the problem, the radio came back on when Iwent over a large bump. To reproduce this, I tried lightly hitting the rightside of the center console (big plastic piece), just onthe right side of the radio. This worked every time. To fix it permanently, you might try using some dielectric grease on the power leads on the back of the radio, but it takes some work to get it out."

Now the audio stops working completely. I removed the stereo this afternoon and found it is almost impossible to remove the 4 screws on the bracket. I also tested the power leads on the back of the stereo and seemed no problem.

Thanks.

Li

welcome to NICO!!!!!!

I would just try cleaning the connectors up with cleaner and see if that helps, if not we will have to go through and test each wire...

To remove the bracket screws you'll need an impact driver. You may end up having to replace the head unit. They tend to go bad after a while.

lol an electrical short is NOT something to hope for!! I had one in an 89 mustang... 1 out of 4 times I shut my drivers side door, the fuse for the interior light would blow.

Followed all the wires that I Could find (even under the carpet and behind panels) and was never able to find the short! I lived with it until I got rid of it. The worse part was that my horn was on the same circuit!! grr

Hope it is a loose wire behind the radio.... or even the radio itself! both would be easier to fix.. trust me

The Bose head units seem to have chronic solder joint troubles which occur with age. You can yank it and have it mail-order repaired, or spend about the same money for another Nissan/Infiniti/Bose head off eBay, or go aftermarket and step up to the marvel that is MP-3 playback. With handy iPod etc. auxiliary input arrangements.
