im stumped here guys can someone help me out? i have an 89' 240sx stick. when i bought the car it was running decent. my probelm now is i was going to school one day and it died on me when i was crusing in 3rd going 40mph ish? now i cant figure out wtf happened. the car starts when its cold and will idle fine.. i can rev it to reline i can drive it for a little bit. but when the car warms up it dies... sometimes it takes 1 min sometimes 5-10 secs. i unplugged the mafs to see if that was giving me problems.. still same thing

the night before i have my k@n intake filter to a buddy of mine to clean for me. i left it to dry over night before i drove it. when the car dies it sounds like it doesnt have any air going through or no fuel.. i cant figure it out

Sounds like a damn oxygen sensor. So the car dies when you are only out of gear, right? When you pull the gear out to coast at 40ish, or a slow gear change, it goes?

leaky injectors - you will see fuel all over the rail

check your power and plugs

listen for a fuel pump and check for engine ground, sounds like a fuel problem.

How about a loose connection in the intake after the MAFS? That would do it.Tighten all your intake hoses... check it out.

I dunno it sounds like your MAFS. especially if you unplugged your MAFS and it was still doing the same thing. One of the ways to tests for a bad MAFS is unplugg it and see how the car runs. if it runs worse than with the MAFS connected, then it means your MAFS is good. if your car runs the same with the MAFS connected or disconnected then you might have a bad MAFS. I hope that makes sense.

There is also a way to check your MAFS with a multimeter by measuring either the voltage or resistance at some of the pins. I don't remeber the details of how to do it, but the FSM gives a pretty good description.
