Gentlemen and Datsun gurus.... The pictured transmission is in my 65 Datsun L320 behind a J15 Motor all this time I thought I had a E1 engine until I started looking in the manual for my 320 and things were a little different.  To my surprise J15 was stamped on the Block.  Got the engine all figured out, got it running but now Transmission and clutch are the problem!  I have no idea what transmission I have but I assume it is a 4 speed. Please look at the posted picture and numbers on the tranny and give me your input.  Throw me a bone of some kind.  Thanks

Looks like one of the F4W63L 4 speeds.    510 trans.

Stephen,

Thanks for the quick response I appreciate your input I did not even know what it came out of and what year it was. Was this tranny typical with the J15?  And I am a little confused as far as the electrical connection can you expand further? Is one of them a neutral safety? If so what is the other one? Like I said thanks now I have a little bit more info when I go to Napa to order a clutch.  Did this ever make it in the 520 or 521?

thanks, terry

PS my offer for lunch still stands.

As far as the switches go, one is a reverse light switch and the other could be a neutral switch or a 4th gear switch which was part of the emissions control on later vehicles.  Your trans likely a non US version that came with the engine when the pervious owner bought it.  We never got the J15 or J16 (my engine) in the US.  The trans you have was also in the US L521 (J13) and PL521 (J16) but it is different from the late 320/520 trans.  You'd be looking for 510/521 clutch parts.
