I picked up a DOHC 32 Valve Nissan engine that was still new in the crate from Japan. It is a longblock. No intake, or any accessories. These are the numbers on the outside I can readVH45-124350N942SHF BRG00241010268u03 I have no idea what it fits, what it's worth, but it is one killer looking engine. I know I'm a first time poster here, but if anyone would know, it should be you guys.

Well it is a 90-96 Q engine 4.5 liters. To determine which year I need to know what the head intake ports look like 8 round per side [90-93] or 4 larger ovals per side with a notch in the top [94-96]. 1996 is a special year no VVT so the front of the valve covers have what looks like a blanl round plug.

Anyway you look at it a new long block [especially a 90-93] is worth something like $2,000 to someone.

I have 8 perfect oval holes for the intakes. No notches I can see.

Then it's a 90-93 Q long block.

We buy pretty good [but used Japanese take outs for $1500-$1750 delivered to our shop] but you get lots of spare parts that way and usually don't have to change everything.

The time to make the engine servicable is the critical factor because a qualified tech can bring in $1500 per day doing normal work and it takes a full day to R&R a used engine sitting on the ground. If the new parts cost $500 at minimum.

Making a new long block into a working engine [inspecting for new guides] probably was built at least 10-12 years ago so you must reseal everything, makes the process a wash. The benefit is having new vs excellant used is only significant for someone who needs 250,000 miles vs may be 150,000 miles. The problem with new is you want to buy all new gaskets [exhaust and intakes] and start with new injectors you could easily spend another $3,000.

I assumed the seller would pay for shipping.

The problem is warranty as the used engines have a 7 day exchange but one can examine a new long block but not without destructive disassembly.

Any purists out there to start the bidding [please post pictures].

Fiona - Ask away right here!

You're in the midst of more VH45DE expertise than anywhere else (outside of Japan). :)

Mind if I ask what you'll be using the engine for?

Hehehe. That's between me and very few people - I dont want anyone beating me to it as im sure you can understand when you're doing something different! :) Im not sure if it has been done before it probably has in Japan but ive never heard or seen of it being done so.....You'll all see it in about a year when she's done and once i have the car which probably wont be for 6 months ill make regular posts as to how the project is progressing!

The only people that know what I want to do are my boyfriend, my brother, my dad and a top workshop in perth know im toying with the idea, but it was asked to keep private. Oh and the guy I emailed ofcourse. Its more a need-to-know basis thing.....I hope none of you take it the wrong way its just im really excited about this and I dont want the world to know....coz i gotta save up the money first haha, dont want some Mr.Moneybags stealing my idea n doing it first.
