I need to know if a S15 SR20 will fit into an S14 (1995) 240. I want the S15 because it has the six speed, and will more than likely have fewer miles. I know the S14 to S14 is pretty much just pull one out, and drop the other in. I am abou tto order one or the other in the next day or two, and would like to know if it will work. Also, where would be the best place to but one, concidering price, reliability, how soon I would get it, and if it will come with absolutely everything I will need. Please let me know guys, and I am sorry if this has been asked before. I tred to search. Thanks, Bobby

Umm, there is quite a bit of work involved in doing the S15 swap, as in the speed sensor is in the rear diff, so you need that too, and the driveshaft as well because the transmission is a bit longer IIRC. You know, for the money you could save on getting an S14 SR rather than an S15, it would be faster than the S15, and you would have a beefier transmission (the six speed is weaker than the 5 speed). Anyone else wanna comment, I probably forgot something.

Really, that is interesting. I didn't know that the five speed would be a better transmission to have. I just though more gears more power. Plus on heavy throttle's website, it says that the S15 makes more power than the S14. Just by looking at the numbers on each specific motor. They also sell the S15 with everything you need, and I mean everything to make the swap. Please let me know if you still think the S14 would still be the better way to go. Thanks.

More gears doesn't mean more power, the transmission doesn't make the power, the engine does. And like PabloHoney said, for the price difference you could be pushing more that 250 (probably at the wheels) on an S14 motor. With the extra money you could start upgrading it. S14 motors often come with low miles...you should be able to find one with under 30k.

Well, the rumors about the s15 6-speed being weak have been pretty much layed to rest. They were supposed to fall apart after 350hp... I recall an article that had one getting 420+hp and it was holding up fine.

I would, however, totally agree with the previous posts. The s14 is much cheaper, and as close to a direct swap as you can get. The amount of cash you save will EASILY put you beyond the horsepower of the stock s15 SR. The amount you save on purchase price is only the beginning... the install cost will easily double because of all the snags you could run into with an s15 engine going into an s14 chassis.

Actually Maine is right. I believe you are referring to the Blitz S15 which has a stock transmission and is pushing 425...can't remember if that was to the wheels or not, but regardless...

I guess in theory the transmission is weaker, but not in practice.
