Quick backstory. I bought a 91 n/a. Previous owner told me it needed a new efi harness, so like a rookie, I bought a wiring specialties main harness (yury is awesome by the way). Installed it and had no difference. Replaced all six injectors. No difference. Fuel pump. No difference. Now, when I bought the car, I changed the oil and some other basic stuff that anyone should do when they purchase a new vehicle. After all the attempts to diagnose and fix the issues, there is still no difference. I drained the oil again a week ago and found almost a liquid cup worth of gas sitting on top of the oil in the pan after it settled. I was sure that I had a leaking injector and so I pulled the plenum and the rail and expected to find my series 2 injectors not fitting the series 1 rail. Nope, doesn't seem to be a series 1 rail. I'm stuck. I can't seem to get anywhere with it. Help please.

The car will start up but barely. I have to give it gas to get it going and then hold the throttle open to keep it running. I did drive it around the block one time and once it warmed up, it lost all power. It wouldn't go over 35 to begin with. Also, every time it try to start it, there is a grinding noise that sounds like its coming from the starter, but it is intermittent and doesn't happen consistently.

Any advice or help is appreciated. I'm willing to do what it takes to get it running. It's been nearly 8 years since the last drive in a Z and I really need my fix.

Also replaced the ptu and 3 coils for the record.

Have you done a balance test, just wondering if you have fuel in one cylinder and no spark.

Fuel in the oil is odd, I'm only going to guess, but maybe a lower intake seal that is going bad? Maybe you are just running that rich because of another issue? Any mods on the car?

sorry not much help yet, but maybe with enough questions, we can find a rabbit to chase ;)

Yes, I did a balance test. That's how I found out that 3 of the coils were bad. I replaced all three and now have spark on all 6.

I have no mods whatsoever. Other than the basic deletes she is bone stock.

Consult says all the sensors are reading where they need to be.

I also was thinking that the lower intake gasket might be an issue. I think I will pull the lower. I've got to do the timing belt anyway.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Keep the ideas coming.

Late type injectors WILL NOT work in the early type fuel rail and lower intake with out adapters.

Kind of hard too see. The one on top has a concave area where the injector goes and the I-rings for the one on top are bigger than the ones for the intake on the bottom

so what was the issue?

I had a my injectors leak on me twice and mine was the pintle cap not holding the o ring in place.

Replace all those insulators while you're in there.

The issue is, I am trying to find out if I have s2 or S1 stuff. I purchased s2 injectors and rail. I have allot of fuel in my oil. I'm thinking that may be due to the previous owner replacing things incorrectly. Which of these two intakes is S2?

why don't you try test fitting the insulators and see which set seals tighter since you have the rail off already.
i don't think it matters which one you use as long as it has a tight seal. replace the insulators before re installing rails. the ones you have in the picture looks weathered.

also replace all your injector o-rings and the injector pintle caps as well. the ebay ones work the best with the 4 prongs since they are quite tight. pressure test your fuel rail with the injectors on before installing it back on the block. replace the short fuel rail hose that connects the 2 rails as well just for safe measure.

one injector might be leaking because you don't have a tight seal from the o ring. happened to me and the other time it hydrolocked the engine.

what about fuel pressure? you might need to install a gauge to check.

hope this helps

I have a brand new fuel pump, so haven't checked the fuel pressure. The car stumbles real bad so it could be a possibility, however, I have replaced the entire fuel system basically. I will do that for good measure.

As far as the o rings and rail, I have ordered them but haven't yet received them. I realized that was a real easy way to figure out what lower intake I have after I posted this. I'm still open to ideas and opinions though. I will update once I get the rail and seals. Thanks. Any input helps.
