Ok... I think Sommmatt probably gave the best advice. I think everyone agrees that you should start small. So get all your maintanance in order and the overhaul your suspension and braking systems.

While you do this you can get more familiar with the car and also wait for VQ swaps to become more common, meaning step-by-step walkthroughs becoming more streamlined and easy to follow. And I can tell you, from monitoring related threads... that day is coming soon (and I'm talking months). The VQ35 swap will be the future of the 240sx. By the end of this year, I predict at least 3 relatively problem-free VQ swap treads.

Bide your time, take care of other issues first and address your powertrain later. That's the natural order of things anyways....

sr20 swap, keep it bone stock and get hip on all the maintenance, brakes, etc etc

you'll get smog hookups when you start meeting other car geeks and 240 guys, just don't drive like a dumbass and have too loud of an exhaust and the cops won't mess with you.

I've been ka-t for 2+ years and i've never had any problems with the cops. My car is pretty low-key and quiet tho.

SR's are good because they offer reliable OEM performance, great aftermarket support and a trained monkey can do the swap nowadays.

Exactly... I are stoopid. So, I need the VQ swap to be documented to the point of being 'trained monkey' easy... lol

ahahhaa, at that point when i posted that I had been seriously sleep deprived. But he never said what e30, and i assume if your gonna swap an engine into an e30, youll buy the 318 or an m3.... Why would you buy anything else, its a waste of money.

But STEALerships will tell you anything including your brand new 80k dollar car doing something it sohuldnt as being ok.

Why does a 16 year old need a 300hp car?

^^^ Why does anyone? Don't be an a$$. The kid exhibits some maturity in this thread. I say should we support him.

Not being an a**. I'm just saying. 300hp is useless unless you can control it, whether you are 16 or 50. But it seems a 16 year old would have a lot less driving experience, and with those 300 horses he will probably street race the rich kids at his school with the G37s. Not saying I wouldn't, but still. My question was valid.

Cheers, stay safe, and good luck with the project
