I'm planning on buying 5Zigen GN+ rims for my 92 240SX Hatchback in 17x8.5 (+22) front & 17x9.5 (+22) rear, & ordered a 5 lug conversion. I was told by EdgeRacing.com that I should get 225/45 17's for the front & 255/35 17's for the rear, & that this would be plus sizing. I've been searching for basicly any tire in 255/35 & came up with nothing. Are there any good quality tires made in that size, where can I find them? Will this combo work without rubbing?

The front wheels/tires sound fine, but the diameter is a bit larger than stock. 215/45-17 is closer to stock but may be kinda narrow for your 8.5" wheels.

I'm not too sure about the rear. Its often said that running too big of a stagger (rear tire wider than the front) can induce understeer. So I think a narrower tire in the rear would be better.

Summary:215/45 front with 235/40 rearor225/45 front with 245/40 rear

Hopefully one of the gurus will chime in with their thoughts. But here's a great sizing calculator to mess with...http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp

225/45 front with 245/40 rear is a nice setup.

Well I was playing around with the calculator IWannaS15 posted, & I really like the 225/45 245/40 idea. Anyone running this setup? Any pictures?

Can anyone recomend a good tire for traction & treadlife? I've been looking at the Yokohama AVS ES100s.

You need to determine what tires you want to run first. Some tires are not offered in certain sizes.

Try not to stagger very much.

235/40 and 245/40 sounds like the best idea to me.

Here is 235/40/17 on 17x9+20s, with -2 front, and -1.6 rear camber, with rolled and slightly pulled front and rear fenders:

Only rubs slightly up front, and only during really hard cornering.

For tires:

Hankook RS-2 or Falken Azenis 615 hands down. Both grip like crazy, with the azenis being the slightly better performer. RS-2s are cheaper though.

Both of these are available in the sizes I mentioned.

done.

ES100s suck. They don't grip well at all, and they start chunking like crazy as soon as they get hot.

235/40 Is probly too much for me considering I have stock fenders, Falken Azenis RT-615s don't come in 245/40, & I've heard bad things about/not too farmiliar with Hankooks. Has anyone ran BF Goodrich g-Force T/A Sports before?http://www.discounttiredirect....ar=45 Not the KD or KDW, because it's a daily driver & I do get caught in the rain sometimes.

It is not too much. I could run 245s up front I wanted, and my fenders are stock too. Just need to roll them. It is super easy and doesn't take much time at all. If you aren't willing to roll fenders, don't bother getting nice, wide wheels like those.

Oops. Sorry about the sizing quote for the azenis. As far as the Hankooks, what bad have you heard about them? Everybody says that they are just as grippy as falken azenis. If you have heard bad things about hankook tires in general, that means nothing. I'm telling you that the RS-2's are very good. I have them myself. I'm driving like 55 around 20mph corners, and it takes some incredibly hard driving to even start to loose traction. And yes, I daily drive them.

As far as g-force tires:They are pretty much the same price as RS2s. RS2's surpass them by so much in performance and grip that it is not even funny. RS2's have a much higher load rating, far stiffer sidewalls, and larger, more stable tread blocks. The g-force sport is just a wanna be UHP tire with hard tread that will last forever. If you really want tires that last 40k miles, maybe you shouldn't be driving a sports car.

the wheel size you chose is pretty..........front will be atleast 10mm sunken than the rear. i don't know why all 240 guys like to pull the crap out of their fenders. or run another ~2deg camber to compensate vs front. i can't understand why 240 owners like to destroy their fenders. other car guys would never do that to their car... s2000, nsx, supra...

he wanted good thread life so max summer tires are pretty much out of the question maybe a sporty uhp tire will work.

es100, st115, fm901, bfg sport etc. theyre all aright as a sporty tire but nothing great compared to a max summer.
