Hey guys,

I'm just starting to look around for some 240s in my area. I found a few but the thing is for a $3-4000 car I would have to save for months. Now, I only have till Fall until I am probably going to have to move out on my own, and I would like to have a car before I even try to figure out living on my own. Can anyone give some advice on purchasing? I'm 18, no credit whatsoever, and I don't really know anyone with decent credit that would co-sign for me. What should I do?

Any help greatly appreciated

-Andrew

Wait so whats your question exactly?
Ima just take a guess but find a decent apt which shouldnt be to hard especially if your job doesnt pay s***. You dont really need credit you would just have to pay two months rent or a month n a half to move into your new apt.
Also if your looking for a 240 you shouldnt be paying 3-4k for one unless it is a s14 or a s13 wit ha swap of some sort.
You can find a cheap running car for 2k or so and keep that since having a place to live is more important then having a nice first car :)
Only reason i felt the need to reply to this is because i was in the pretty much same situation couple years back
So have any more questions i will be glad to help

Well you do need a car if you move out.

Option one - save 2500-3500 for an uber clean car, dont jump on the first one.
Option two - Sugar mom

Yeah defiantly save your money man. If you live in pa then the average price of a one bedroom should be about 750 a month right? You also have to think about the other things your going to need or want like food, electricity, cable/internet, car insurance, etc. It may seem like alot to worry about now but trust me once your living there and have a place that you can call yours and you do everything for yourself it is tottaly worth it. But yeah just find cheapish honda, toyota, 240 you will want a basic simple ca that you know will be relieable and you wont pay a arm n a leg for insurance and gas

ah man, option one was my first plan but now it seems that isn't the best direction to go. option two is out of the question if i understand correctly, as my if i even had a the slightest chance of sugaring mom, i wouldnt have to move out on my own, i already live with my girlfriends parents in willow grove.. basically my mom is a jew..
yeah a decent 1-br should run about 750-800 around here. i also have a friend from NC who is looking to move back into the area and is looking for a roomie so that might work out. im gonna save my cash now come whatever may.
u guys did answer my questions for the most part but now im wondering if and how i could go about getting a loan or building credit at this point. it'd be ideal if i could pick up a beat little s13 for a little while just so i could have some paid-off wheels come fall.

again, thanks a lot you guys rock.

Thats not too bad for insurance, but my agent loves me so im used to paying next to nothing however she manages that idk. BUT you might need less than you think for an S13 if you have patience. I paid $1100 for mine, and granted, it is not the coolest looking 240 around, but it is a 5 speed and its a fun wittle car with 140K ish miles when i got it. I've had it about 2 years now with almost no problems outside of regular maintenance. But i had to watch the local paper and craigslist for 2 months before i found someone that didn't want 3k for a collection of parts they called a nissan. (The first 240 i bought i was a little too anxious, i paid 3k and learned my lesson about patience)

down here in houston, you can get a all bills paid apt as low as 600/mo but all the ghetto pieces of s*** live there, so you either are going to have to deal with that, or start coughing up more for a higher establishment, a really REALLY nice 1 br apt is around 850-900, crappy ones start at like 400 and go up from there (roaches, rotten wood, section 8, etc etc)

liability insurance shouldnt be that much, im paying 240$ for 6 months of insurance.

dont pass on the option of room-mating either.. another dude can cut half the costs down.

for a first timer credit card to build credit do the following..

-get a sears card (you can get tools as needed, and it will help to your credit) small limit is fine. make sure to spend a couple bucks a month on it, buy a screwdriver or a hammer, or some tool each month, and pay it off as soon as you get the statement

-Credit-one bank, credit card will be HIGH interest, so buy a pack of gum, and a big gulp a month, thats it.

-get a cellphone through sprint/t-mobile.. they report to the credit agencys..

-jc-penny/foleys credit card - pick up a t-shirt once a month, and pay that mo-fo off

-walmart card - if you are going to be living on your own, you will need toilet paper, and what not, might as well put it on the walmart card, and pay it off as soon as the statement comes in..

once you have an apt, it also helps build your credit having constant payments.

never let your bank account go low, keep a couple houndred in there at all times, it shows that you are responsible with your money, and shows that you typically have money availible..

open a savings account, and put a couple houndred in it.

banks look at all of that s*** when deeming you approvable for a loan or not.
