I’ve spent the last few nights trying to remove my crankshaft pulley; I’ve finally got it off with the help of a crankshaft removal kit I rented. What a pain. The kit had some tools to install the crankshaft pulley as well, but the threaded tool that attaches to the crankshaft isn’t long enough to reach the threads inside the shaft. Is there a special tool that works for the QX4 (1998)? I’ve tried tapping it with a mallet but can’t seem to generate the force needed with the limited space between the pulley and the radiator. Any ideas? Also, once the thing is on there how do I stop the engine from turning to torque the bolt? I have an automatic transmission, so putting it in gear won’t work. I’m also leery of using a strap wrench since the harmonic balancer is separated into two parts by rubber and I’m thinking that the torque could damage that rubber piece. Any thoughts? Thanks!
