So my father inlaw is selling me his 2004 Titan (White, Black Leather, Power Seats, King Cab, Loaded) Im not at all familiar with the truck other then i no hes taken real good care of it. Its in great body shape and interior is flawless - It was his daily driver and he drives alot (it currently has 104,000 miles). The engine is clean and hes never had any major repairs (orig tranny, etc)... He's offering to me for $8000

Should I... or shouldnt I? any advice is appricated!

I'd say go for it. I have no complaints about mine other than the gas milage kinda sucks, mpg is supposed to be 13 city /18 hwy but I average around 12. Also, check to see if it was one of the ones that needed the ac fan and fuel gauge to be repaired/replaced, any nissan dealer should do it for free since it was a factory defect.

Be careful, I have read horror stories about the rear axles on those things.

Does it have the aluminum finned rear diff cover? That was Nissan's bandaid on the rear end issue. If the truck hasn't been used for towing, you probably have nothing to worry about, but if it's towed a lot of heavy loads, the rear ends have been known to fail. 2004 was the first year, and every year since has come with that finned cover that allows for better cooling and additional rear diff oil capacity. if it doesn't have one, get one. Do the KBB on the truck and ensure it books for that, but a friend of mine recently traded in the '04 he had since new at 167k and it was running great. Another friend of mine has an '04 4x4 at about 120k and it's doing fine as well, though it does have a couple wierd noises from the HVAC system.

Sorry Im late to the party but this is a true statement...plus other problems with early Titans. 2004 was the first year of the Titan and it took several years for Nissan to straighten them out. They didn't fix the rear axle problem until 2007 when they upgraded the Super DANA 44 in the rear end. But even Titans after this are having axles fail under heavy load. I have a 2010 Titan and I've never had a problem but Nissan has had 6 years to work out the bugs. Yeah, $8000 is a good deal for that truck but the milage is high for even a 2004. 90,000 miles is about where it should be. And with the history of the earlier Titans I think your money would be better spent somewhere else. Go to titantalk.com and check out the reviews from real Titan owners.
