I currently have a 1990 Nissan 300zxTT with a 1994 JDM engine swapped into it. Since the engine swap, the engine is running very rough and very rich. I just had the ECU reflashed to match the Nismo 555cc injectors and the Z1 Dual Pop-charger, but the engine still will not rev past 4.5k and there is almost no boost. We just replaced the spark plugs. We have also added an Apexi Super AFC-II and a Blitz SBC Boost Controller, but these are not problematic since we eliminated them from the loop. Any ideas where to look next? Thanks in advance

this si the problem wtih doing mods at the same time as a swap, makes troubleshooting a lot harder, have you checked the timing? how aobut the cam timing? and I don't get the fuel controller in additoo to the ecu chip? if the chip is done right you won't need the fuel controller, and if the fuel controller was so great you wouldn't need an ecu chip

definitely sounds like a timing issue either electronic ro physical

Thanks man. I'll definitely check the timing as soon as I get home. I didn't even think about that being an issue. How exactly would you check/change the timing on a Z32?

well the cam timing is a matter of setting the timing belt, and positioning all the cams and crank in the proper position, as for ignition timing, the little metal round thing on the front of the drivers side exhaust cam has 3 screws in it, loosten them and rotate it, one way advances the other way retards, guessing your timing is too far advanced and needs to be retarded

Ok, I just checked the timing on the Z. The timing at idle is way off. When steady, constant throttle is applied between 1500 and 3000 rpm, the timing is at 15 btc. When more or less throttle is applied, the timing jumps very spiratically. Any ideas what can cause this? Should I replace the ptu?

Is the CAS the metal thing that I turned? If so, yes I turned it clockwise and that brought the timing back onto the scale, but it still jumps around like crazy when throttle is applied.

it's gonna jump when you rev it, the idea is to set the timing at idle, and get the car to idle on it's own

Ok, good that was really scaring me. The car still seems to get bogged down when gas is applied after the timing at idle has been set to 15 btc. What is the the correct timing at idle?

BTW I noticed on my CAS that it has a Mitsubishi symbol on the front. Is this common?

Edit: When I first went to adjust/check the timing, I found that it wasn't even on the scale. I rotated the CAS until it was somewhat on the scale. What happens if you move the CAS all the way and the timing still isn't in the desired range?

15 is btdc is spec, one or 2 degrees more can get you an extra pony or 2 but increases chance of detonation, retarding the timg reduced the chance of detonation but robs low end power and if retarded to much can actually generate boost without load ont he engine

and yes mitsubishi makes lots of electronics for lots of cars, the old Z's injection system was made by bosch, hitachi also makes a lot of automotive electronic's, a lot of nissan struts are made by tokiko, clarion used to make radios for nissan, some are bose

That sounds pretty serious. You mean one of the gears is not lined up correctly with the timing belt? How would I go about fixing it?

you pull the timing belt covers off, rotate the engine till the cam and crank indictors are where they are supposed to be, if one of the indicators doesn't line up you found your problem
