I bought a '93 d21 hardbody last June,(2008) and ever since i got it it hasn't revved past 4200 rpm, its an auto trans, I've changed the fuel filter, the transmission fluid, and tested the sensors, nothing helped. Can anyone help?

Sounds like safe mode from MAF error? I know you tested sensors, but does that include this one?

Kinda just a random guess.. like was said before, people in the truck section or the section for the engine the car has could probably do a better job.

Why would you want to rev past 4200 no power up there.

I hit 6200 when I need to. Peak torque for the truck version of the ka24e is 152 lb ft at 4400rpm, and 134hp at 5600 rpm, rev limiter is somewhere around 6800, but IDK, I've never ran into it. I'd say a 6200 shift is max if its running right. My max shift points are 1st gear=24-28mph, 2nd gear=43mph, 3rd=57mph, 4th=84mph, and 5th to the top speed of 97mph, drag limited. You can tell the engine is busy when revving this high, but its got the guts thats for sure. Forged steel crank, forged steel con rods, dual valve springs, everything else is pretty good.

I'm not telling tall tales, and I definitely save the forays to redline for special occasions, such as merging into heavy traffic, and other situations where it just wouldn't be as safe not to try and go for it. It can be a pussycat when I can get away with it. I don't always wind it up that far.

I see how old this thread is, but I have a similar problem and I think I saw seang still commenting recently on here...so here goes:

Did you ever manage to reach a higher top end than 97mph? I have an engine in my truck that can beat the crap out of wind-drag but feels like it tops out around 85mph.

Does anyone know if my HF37 rear axle in my 1993 hardbody is maxxed out under 100mph? I would also like everyone to post their fastest top end speeds in their hardbody and be sure to state your year, model, auto/5sp, and axle information pleeeeeaaaasssseee.

:)

When I bought my 89 back in 89 I got it upto 100 mph but that was years ago and it took along time to get there and it really wasnt designed to go that fast so I never did it again.

Also my 4 cylinder seems to loose power/vibrate over 4500 rpm so I use 4200 rpm as a shift point.
