Hi

I am new on Nico Forums and I am thinking about buying a 1991 Q it a good runner, but he says it has electrical issues. He says The passenger seat won’t move, the heat control display doesn’t work, however the heat does work. The antenna for the radio does not go up, and the rear passenger window doesn’t work. Also the power steering isn’t working right, the wheel turns hard (it has speed variance control which is electronic) so I think maybe the computer relay is bad. What is the problem, does it could it be a bad relay or are these problems independent.

We have done hundreds of prebuy inspections on 1991 Q45. The least expensive one needed $3000 and the most expensive one needed $11,000 in 2003 dollars.

Always pay an expert [$100-$200] to test and list everything thay find needed to restore all systems to as new functioning. Then you can rank the fixes.

Obviously you can use junkyard, discount, and ebay parts and self labor to lower the above prices.

The 5 problems you listed are normal worn out parts each independent.I'll bet there is $3,000 additional BESIDES what you listed that will show up on an lift inspection.

Heat control displays fail mine just did-- easy fix under 100My antenna just failed also. Like Q45tech said if you can do the work yourself the issues you listed are nuisance and not too bad to fix.

Injectors and timing guides among other things can be an issue on these cars

Of all the problems you mentioned, the hard steering is the only one that is a must-fix item. Everything else is just a nuisance.

Personally, I wouldn't let a few non-functional power accessories kill the deal if (1.) the asking price is right, and (2.) a thorough inspection* reveals no other major problems.

*The inspection is VERY important - Do NOT take this guy's word when he says that there are no other problems with the car!

Check all the fuses, if the airbag light blinks too its a blown fuse. But the air bag light blinks it could be for other reasons too obliviously.

You need new (Which cost a but load from IOS AKA Infiniti of Scottsdale) used or you can have Jerry tucker repair it for $100. You can also try to repair it your self by following this guide: zerothread/804

You might need a whole antenna assembly or just an antenna if the previous owner removed it.

You might need a rear window motor which is expected of a vehicle of this age, or it could just be the switch in the center console or the rear window switch too. If either switch fails the window will not move.

Is the reservoir full?

Does the speedometer work correctly?

Does the car have TCS AKA Traction Control?

Welcome to NICO.

To expand on what paul said...

The seat could be something like a switch, chances are its a simple problem, never heard of anything major going on with seats.. I consider that an easy fix, NBD problem.

HVAC controller can be rebuilt... $100 and an easy swap.

If the antenna motor works (makes noise) then you probably just need a new mast.. 30 mins and about $15.

The steering is probably a speed sensor or an instrument cluster.. Does the speedo go to zero when it happens? For whatever reason, the speed sensitive steering gets its signal from the instrument cluster.
