I hooked up my power and ground wire today. I have all the RCAs hooked up to the back of my kenwood HU and now i am having trouble with the remote turn on lead. I hooked it up to the blue wire with the white stripe coming out of the HU which i was told to do by the guy at crutchfield. I wrapped the wires together and then connected the RMT to the amp and no power. Im pretty sure the other wires have power seeing as how a spark shot between them when i accidently touched one with the RMT wire i was connecting to the amp. What could be the problem? Did i splice into the right wire? Any other possibilities Right now i have no sound...it sucks.

hey danial,i just got up.give me some time today and i will pull my headunit and see hows its hooked up.i will take a pic and email it to you today.did you sand of the paint at the grounding area.amps should be ground within 18"of amp.they make little multimeters that are real cheap.

well...i just went to a stereo place in town and we discovered that the amp is messed up. he used the multimeter to measuere the volts and it came out to about 12v when he touched the ground and power and it came to about 12v when he touched the ground and RMT wire. But when he connected the remote wire to the amp and retested the voltage it was about .013v. He told me the amp was broken. Sound correct? Ill have to send it back to crutchfield on Monday.

well...dont tell crutchfield this but i think i blew it up somehow....i accidently let the power and ground wire touch when i had them connect to their spots on teh amp. i forgot to fully cover the wire with the rubber cover and they touched and it sparked a bit. i dunno if that was it or not?? but all is well... a new one was shipped out today adn should be here tomorrow. another note...i just received my kappa 60.5cs today. gonna pull the door of later and see what ill have to do to fit it. I think i can just drop it in and put a block of wood in around it in order to secure it into the factory spot. ill get pics when im done if i can.

i just pulled off the door panel on pass side. you know that little bar the goes across the hole when you pull at the speaker?? is that necessary to be there? im not sure if im gonna be able to clear it with my speaker depth and was wondering if i could cut it out? Where did you mount your crossover?

hold on.are you talking about window channel.dont cut that.how thick is your baffle.if you use 1/2" subtract that from your depth.yor set up is a little different than 97 i think.i remember taking big oem box out of door.is yours like that.whn i had passive c/overs i put them behind the stereo, big *** mbquarts.ater outlet.access from drivers side by heater duct.

where exactly did you connect your ground? could you take a picture of the spot? i tried another amp and couldnt get it to power up either. i connected the ground and the power to the amp and then tried using a piece of wire as a relay from the power to the Remote connections on the amp to try and power it up...nothing happened. this is getting frustrating. where do i get a multimeter or whatever to read voltage. i really need to get this working. what else should i look for as possible culprits??

even one more question. i have the stock speakers still hooked up and the remote wire coming from the back of the headunit is connected into the wiring harness at the time...is this a reason for the relay to not turn the amp power on?

ground has to have bare metal.it wont work with paint there.sand away rust.dont have time to answer wiring question right now.is the head unit powering up.home depot for mutimeter.what about the inline fuse to the amp is it good.check car fuse also.you should never install a stereo while the battery is hooked up.one zap is all you get to mess up head amp for good.all i can say cause i dont now witch wire on the deck is the remote.it should sayu in the manaul for the stereo.or go to kenwood web page and see if the have online manuals.shouldnt be this complicated.ground to steal not aluminum.

The ground has to be on bare metal. You can hook up the amp turn on to your ignition wire. Or any other wire that turning the key makes power go through. If your using a test lamp you test the wire without the ignition turned on. If it doesn't ahve power turn the ignition on. Then if it does have power you can t-tap that wire and use it.
