ok so im a noob here to this forum, i wanted to join a few years ago but i didnt own a nissan haha.

so im stuck on choosing what gen of maxima too keep and which to sell.

i own a 90 se 5 speed with 91k miles and the frame and body have 210k

i got the car for free from a friend and all i had to do was get a new motor, and its the same with the 4th gen.

im having a hard time choosing wich to keep and fix up. i want the 3rd gen cause its a classic and rare around here, but there is not much aftermarket support without unless i do a swap or go turbo. emissions are a bia bia here in cali.

im sure some of you have seen the vid of the turbo 3rd gen on youtube, well that was my plan.

and if i get the 4th gen it has alot of support and more power. hahaha

sorry for the long explenation. -luis-

i'd say do a coin toss a few months before i got my 4th gen i was looking at a black 3rd gen and loved it. it's hard to decide because there's nothing like an older car that can kick a$$ on the street.

good luck chosing

3rd gen ftw!!!

if you want to turbo it has the benefit of being manual...so if the 4th gen is auto maybe you'll decide that way...if both 5 sp then coin toss lol

they are both manual. haha

i love the fact that its a older car for the 3rd gen and i love it, but the 4th gen has a bigger potential in the aftermarket

im still thinking about the coin toss

well if you want to be rational...which one is in better condition mechanically, body...which is more fun to drive....

and always think of the one which you want people to tell you to keep...which im guessing right now is the 3rd gen coz you seem more fond of that one and only torn because you may find 4th gen stuff easier....

if you're going to do it all yourself you can just customise your 3rd gen...

Since it's a '90, it's got the VG. Much as I love the VG, you'll be able to do more with the VQ, especially considering that you'd rather avoid turbo for emissions reasons. I like the third gen better as a car, but the VQ is a definite head start as far as modding goes.

I am biased, go 3rd gen. Both engines can be built, both are manuals, only one is independent rear suspension.
