hey guys i jsut bought a 1994 s13 and im going to do a full rebuild on the ka24de thats in it and make it a 2.6L de-t.... im not sure if i should buy forged, steel or aluminum pistons.....my dad grew up building big/small block chevys and told me i shouldnt go with forged, that i should go with either steel for durability/reliability or aluminum pistons for the lightweightness....AMS performance has a rebuild kit with forged pistons and AMS is the s*** so i imagine forged wouldnt be too bad......im looking to be able to hit an 8-9k redline and between 300 and 400 hp when im all done with it........also what can i do to strengthen my transmission? ive had 3 mitsubishis ('99 eclipse, '96 3000gt vr-4 and an '03 evo hitting 26lbs of boost) and all 3 have had transmission probs....although nissan seems to be much better with the trannys, im tired of having probs so id like to prevent it with this car.......PLEASE HELP! thanks in advance!

ok one man the ka is not going to rev to 8 or 9k without a full weighted crank and thats expensive so u probaly dont want to do that and ive seen that cp pistons always work well with me handle boost well and reliable thats my 2 cents worth

you got some serious work on your hands. if your gonna build a high reving ka your probably more likely to end up in the 500hp or above range just because its more cost effective to go for huge numbers when increasing the rotational capabilities of an engine than to think conservatively in hp and liberal with your rpms. IE go big or go home. to get an idea of what your up against try this article http://www.turbomagazine.com/t....html and its related articles (about 8) that should get your head in the game. if your not in for that kind of work you should check out this thread http://www.ka-t.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6263 its got some basic ka-t build guidelines and these guys really know there stuff. last but not least.... Only you can pick your engine internals! its your money and your time spend it wisely and good luck on your project.

the crank is the week link in the ka..and the stroke...there are ways around it thou..in a way...lighten the rotational mass...this will be costly!..big looong dallors costly..if this is wthe way you want to go...then look up and read up these parts and machine techniques...

#1.) titanium conecting rods.#2.) titanium duel springs and retainers#3.) crank knife edge and balencing#4.) specialty coatings for pistons#5.) forged pistons with or without coatings.#6.) Upgrad in diamiter of your blocks headstuds from a machine shop.#7.) metal O-ring for each cylinder and reciever groove on the head ..from a machine shop#8.) deck/dip/line hone/overbore from a machine shop.#9.) larger profile cams#10.) polished stainless steel valves.#11.) lightend flywheel#12.) lightend drive line.."1 piece"

this is just a start...there is way more to making a ka rev than this but this will put you on the correct path of thinking...if ya want a higher reving motor..try a rb25..couse the ka is not a high rev monster unless you dump more money than god has into it.
