are you sure it's the rings? Could be blown turbo seal.

Yeah, I agree. Lots of other things it could be. I would say it's even unlikely it's the piston rings from what you described. It would probably be making smoke clouds if it was rings. I've got my money on turbo seal also.

Try the free alternatives first, which would be to swap in a known good RB20 turbo. Or if you have the tools, do a leak-down test to check the condition of the rings. Do those and report back

Most likely your turbo, besides changing piston rings ain't like changing your spark plugs.

I agree. If it were your rings you would be blowing some serious smoke And a loss of power is compression was low in a cylinder. Start with the easier test first before you think rebuild or rings. Start by checking the plumbing for OIL. Cuz like every one else said RB20 Turbo's are usually the first villain to suspect of the crime. And replacing the rings would almost be pointless might as well do a rebuild. Cuz with the rings being damaged that will lead to other questions on why oil was leaking pass them. To much heat causing piston damage. Damage to the cylinder walls, Or damged ringlands. So go thru the diagnosis.
