While I was underneath my 94 Q tring to change my oil filter, which I still haven't figured out, I noticed my plastic radiator fan has cracks and a couple of pieces missing. Is this something I can do or will it be something I have to take 400 miles to my nearest Infiniti dealer. I don't have to tear the car half apart do I?? Thanks for input!! Wayne:mad:

Might search on the word fan for previous posts wherein this is discussed.

Wayne - This is an incredibly easy fix that even the least mechanically-inclined among us can handle.

You'll need a long-handled screwdriver and a set of metric ratchets. Place the screwdriver into the groove on the edge of the metal fan hub and loosen each of the 4 bolts holding it on. Order your replacement fan from Joe at Scottsdale (around $50 I think) and reinstallation is reverse of removal.

Leaving it as-is can be dangerous - if the fan disintigrates at high RS's it can take out hoses, the radiator and your shroud and even damage the hood - all expensive to replace.

The fan shroud is a two-piece affair you can remove with the fan in-place. Look in your factory repair book. Find the exploded diagram. It looks like the shroud has a lower lip. This pulls off from underneath, you remove the screws around the periphery of the shroud, unhook a few hoses that are either bracketed to the shroud (bottom) or pinched in plastic arms (sides), take the top trim panel off, and the shroud lifts right out. That sounds like a production, but once you've done it, the fan is amazingly easy to get at.

No need to remove the shroud, but it makes the job a bit easier. :D

Yeah, many ways to skin a cat. I don't remove the shroud, but I do use gearwrenches which make the job total cake. I remove the fan with the clutch 1st, then the fan from the clutch.
