I ran a compression test a few days ago and had low compression in cyl. 2 & 3, plus intermix. So I figured it was my HG.

The motor is on TDC on the compression stroke.

So far on the exhaust side I have the manifold off but the copper pipe from the EGR cracked, so that needs to be replaced.

I have the valve cover off, painted, etc. cams are covered with shop towels and nothing has been done with timing chain yet.

My problem is on the intake side, I have both intake brackets unbolted from the block (one under the oil filter, the other beside the alternator), I have all 8 bolts off the head and both nuts off the head studs, The EGR is unbolted from the intake along with the fuel lines, but the fuel rail is still on. I have all the electrical plugs off and 3 hoses. I can pull on the back of the manifold and it will come out as far as the end of the head stud, but the front still feels like its connected somewhere.

Did I miss a hose or something that's not allowing me to pull the manifold off? If you need pictures of where I'm at I can get them, just ask.

Thanks in advance
-Bryan

try unbolting the upper manifold from the lower manifold, there are quite a few coolant lines under there. o and when you take that head off make sure you keep track of the valve stem buckets, they will fall out and get all mixed up if you flip the head over.

It's unbolted but I can't remove it because one of the studs won't come out from the lower manifold. I used the double nut technique with one, but it won't work for the other. What's the easiest way to keep track of which goes to which valve?

i put mine in separate ziplock bags and numbered them from front to back 1-8I and 1-8E. for bolts i draw a picture on cardboard and stick em through ( great for front covers ). ziplock quart and gallon bags, a few boxes, and a sharpie you can take apart a whole car and get every bolt back in the same hole it came out of.
