ok i have a problem with my car, it wont idle correctly. it is hard to start and when it is running you have to keep your foot slightly on the gas for it to stay running, when you let off it trys to idle and dies after about 3 seconds. i have run out of possiable ideas of what could be causing this. anyone got any ideas?

The search button will be your frond....

Anyway, what have you tried so far?

Edit: Do you drive it regularly or has it been sitting for a while? If you drive it frequently did it just start doing this one day or was it a gradual thing where it just got harder and harder to start?

well it has been sitting for a while, i have just finished a lot of repairs and did some needed upgrades to it. i drove it every day before i started working on it. and it never had a problem with being hard to start. i just did a timing chain, and i have checked almost everything, but it did run for a while after i did the timing chain. about 3 days, and then the alternator went out and i had to replace it and when i went to start it all this happened. i havent touched the iac or tps in any way. im starting to think my car is cursed. i do have a complete iac system intack that i know works. it came off my last engine and one of my room mates has an 89 and he just rebuilt his spare engine so there is an abundance of parts that are in good shape.

cam timing or ignition timing? and none of the symptoms described in the faq are like what im experencing. mine just wont idle, it turns it self off completely about 2 seconds after you let off the gas. a few of my frineds have suggested that i just rip out the engine and rebuild it with my tax money. im thinking about doing that. whoo hoo fordged pistons cam and solid lifters!!! any suggestions?

Idle problems should include: MAF, MAF connectors, AIV, AIV connectors....
