A bad CTS will usually cause it to idle very high when the signal goes low due to a bad CTS the ecu thinks its like -40 out so it runs pig rich to warm it up. I would check for intake / vacuum leaks (carb cleaner on the lines, if you here the idle change / bog the leak sucked the cleaner in and made it hiccup"
Could be an o2 sensor too
Plugs is a good idea, so is charging the battery, cleaning the maf (maf cleaner only), cleaning the IAC, throttle body, and checking the ignition timing. Full tune up, and seafoam job
