Hey ever1 i am new to this forum so here it goes

I am looking at this 1990 300zx Twin Turbo. I am having a few questions the car seems to be running very good but while the car is warming up and thereafter there is a small ticking sound seems to me coming from the lifters but its a very light sound when you rev the engine the ticking speeds up but nothing like a hard tick. when you walk around te car with the hood closed you cant tell its ticking only when ur right next to the engine or with the hood opened The car hasn't been turned on for a while and the reason he is selling is cuz he just had a kid. He says This is normal and ok and will go away after a while. 2nd The car is blowing white smoke out of the exhaust pipes when the car is cold for about a good 15 mins then calms down and seems to be like normal i did smell the smoke i wasnt able to tell if it smelled like oil burning or coolant. The car runs good and is pushing 17psi the gage for the psi is disconnected and has a digital one connected and it is saying -19 occasionally -20 is this good? and the oil pressure is also disconnected with a digital installed the oil pressure is reading about 38 or so. it revs smooths with no knocking or other weird noises. Is there a Z specialist around NYC or NJ where i can take the car and have him inspect it to make sure i am buying a proper car. The owner says that the car's engine was recently upgraded (Same Engine) He says he dropped the engine and changed everything seals headers injectors gaskets and a few more things he said he left the pistons cuz they were fine. PLEZ some help the exterior of the car is beautiful but the mechanical is what i am more concerned about. Please any thoughts would be a help Thanks
ps. He states the car is pushing close to 450BHP

The ticking could be a number of things, I had an old nonturbo that the ticking noise was caused by the weak VTC springs, replacing them made the ticking noise go away. It could be lifters or more severe things down below. Does the engine seem to have power? Run rough at idle?

White smoke is probably condensation if it goes away, this is normal for any car. I'm sure you have seen it before when cars are running in the cold morning.

17psi of boost? On stock turbos, run away! The negative numbers are reading of vaccum which is when the engine is not boosting, idling, part cruise those kind of situations. That part is ok.

What is 38? 38 what of oil pressure?

Also 450bhp you need upgraded injectors, turbos, ecu, intake, exhaust, downpipes amongst other things. What is done to this car that he figures getting that kind of horsepower?

I checked to make sure. Yes he says its pushing 17psi and the turbos are stock. the oil pressure i am not too sure of i will go and take a look at the car again and find out. As 4 the upgrades he says he has put bigger injectors, greddy exhaust, bigger intercooler, chipped ecu, the car has no loss of power i drove it (it was wet outside so couldn't fully test out the turbos) but yes it was raining and i reved to around 3500 to 4000 and i felt the turbos kick in he said it only boosted 2 psi when it kicked in. This is my first turbo car and 1 st time driving a turbo car. i couldnt look at the gauge when it boosted cuz i was to focus on not skiding and crashing lol.

Id be weary of buying a car that somone has been pushing 17psi on the stock turbos for a while, that's pretty much their limit. Atleast he has the upgraded injectors so the engine isn't running lean. What's the mileage? Check to see if the timing belt and waterpump and crankseals have been done recently.

Thanks man i really appreciate it i will look more into it and found a guy who knows about these cars and can help me make a descision is it possible to check the timing belt without opening the entire engine i know on some cars it is possible not too sure on these. The mileage on the body is saying 175,xxx but he says he changed all the seals headers gaskets bigger intercoolers, injectors and all the piping and hoses on the engine. i will definitely ask about the crankseals if they have been done or not. The guy who i am planning on having the car inspected by says that the lifter noise should go away within a hour or less and if it doesnt then i have a serious problem. What do you think ??
