I took my car to the mechanic the other day to remove the timing chain guides, and afterwards, I noticed the car is weaker. It doesn't accelerate as fast as it used to. By this, I mean the fact that it picks up slowly all the way to the redline. When accelerating, the car starts bogging, and jerking a little etc.

Now here's the thing, I think I may have figured out the problem. . . I just opened my engine bay, and looked at the wires, and I noticed that they're not in the correct spots... In this tutorial, it says the spark plug wires need to be in this particular order...

Well this is the order my wires are in. . .

As you can see, from my picture, my wires are not the same as the other one. . . My top left wire is 4, my top right wire is 3, my bottom left wire is 2, and my bottom right is 1. . .

Do you think that may be the problem? Because the mechanic timed the engine with that setup. . . So? Do you think I may be on to something?

Let me know, help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance everybody.

Are you serious? Dude. . . Can I just change them up, or i need to change them, then retime it? Cause if so, i'm taking it to the mechanic right now, and I will get them to fix it ASAP.

Hahah, yup, f***ed up your spark plug wires. Garages suck.

All you need to do is put them in the right order. They shouldn't have messed with the timing.

yeah just change them yourself. and if it is still acting like you described it; take it back to shop where you got the work done and have them fix it for you. You shouldnt have to pay anything because you have pictures to prove they did it wrong

Alright, so I just took it back to the mechanic, and they were saying that it's in the correct positions etc. So i showed them the guide picture I showed you guys, and they still said that it's different.

Thank god I had the original distributor cap (that shows the original number sequence), and I gave it to them, and they were all speechless ... So then they said that it will be fixed by tomorrow. But they asked me to be there and to have the tutorial printed out, so they can make sure to do things right...

Damn, these guys are a joke. Then they started telling me that if they do switch it around, and time it, and it still doesn't work, they said that it would mean the timing chain skipped a tooth or two... And they said it would take a long time to fix it (they're trying to say it will cost me).

But anyways, while trying to figure out the problem, they switched the wires to the 240sx' original way, and tried firing it up, and the engine couldn't start up, so they came to the conclusion that they put the wires in the wrong slots while timing it.

But yeah, if they try to bill me, I will not pay. That's for sure. I'll probably even ask for some money back for their mistakes. . .

I'm half tempted to paypal you cash to tow that bish elsewhere. I personally think the best way to do things is to learn it and do it yourself. Granted you may not know anything about timing and such. But I didn't know d!ck about working on an engine till I researched it and looked it up and did it myself. Even if you mess it up, you learn and you didn't waste a sh;tload on a bunch of chuckleheads with their thumbs up their arses

lol. you can pull the distributor and restab it 90 degrees off, then move the wires accordingly and it will be fine. or 180, or 270 or whatever. it doesn't matter. as long as when cyl 1 is at tdc the rotor is pointing at whatever wire leads to cyl 1 on the cap. you can set it however you want.
