Hi all I have a 1985 300zx turbo automatic and a 1985 300zx non turbo automatic . 1-Will the transmission from the non turbo work in the turbo? 2-Is there any difference in the motors or will they inter change?3- Is it hard to change the didgal dash to an analog speed o meter.I bought the non turbo for parts car for the turbo. The turbo has a bad transmission. Thanks Danny

not sure if it's the same trans but you can definitely do the swap , worst case you'l have to use the N/a flexplate, torque converter driveshaft etc, the engine blocks are cast the same as far as I know, and I believe the digital to analog swap is a bolt in affair, I'm sure AZ_Zbum will pop in and clarify a bit

Check out http://www.z31.com for more info on the swap. With a donor turbo it is pretty straightfoward but it is not just an engine change. There are crossmembers that are different, bunch of other stuff to do, enough thta I never did it to my NA. You should read up on z31.com but with a full turbo I think your okay.

Not sure about the transmission, for sure the NA 5 speed and turbo 5 speed are different, the used a Borg Warner for the Turbo but not sure about the auto. You might ping a local Nissan parts counterman and ask him, they have factory remans and you can see if they are the same part numbers.

1. Yes. But probably not for very long. The turbos were a little beefier.2. Nothing major. Pistons, injectors, and some minor intake stuff.3. http://www.az-zbum.com/modific...shtml

If all that's wrong is the transmission and the interior, just swap those from the NA to the turbo. The transmission will probably hold up just fine on the turbo for a while as long as it is in good shape to begin with. But if the car is a parts car, it's probably not.

Swapping interiors should take a weekend at the most. There really shouldn't be any surprises in removing the old and swapping in the new.

Ok I went to St Louis and pick up my parts car !985 zx non turbo 2 seater.this car was a one owner has the tool kit and every piece that it come with when it was new intior good not tore even the headliner is good.rust very little 225,000 miles.Doesn't run I thank it the fuel pump (not sure yet)the radio even works and the car talks.not bad for $225.00.

Anyway what problems will I have if I put the turbo engine in it? Like ECM wiring Danny

you'll need the enging, harness, ecu and the front corssmember, it's easier if you can find a donor car
