I just finally picked up another s13 with a sr20 in it, i have already pulled the motor, and will be fully building it to put down around 400-450whp, so heres my question the car came with a cometic metal headgasket, and i'm just wandering if i should use it, or sell it and get something like a apexi, tomei i deff dont want to have to worry about it. Once the motors all done, and i have heard some horror stories about the cometic headgaskets sealing properly...

There are a couple threads on what to do with your fresh SR20. Some popular things are replacing the front and rear seals, head gasket (cometic has had some issues if I'm not mistaken). I'm now finding out that I should have replaced the turbo - manifold gasket, and probably the exhaust manifold gasket itself. I'm sure there are a few more things but that's what comes to mind right now. Good luck!

Thanks man i already bought a full oem gasket kit from frsport, so all gaskets will be brand new, and it comes with an oem headgasket plus i have a cometic metal headgasket, but im not sure what i should use since the motors gonna be built pretty strong and i really dont wanna have to worry about it once its all done and in the car...

Cosworth=$130 (25lbs. of boost)Apexi=$200(40lbs. of boost)both will hold 400whp no problemo

I would use the stock head gasket before I ever use a COMA-tec again!

I'm interested as to why you think the Cossy is only good for 25 psi?

I'd say both the Cossy and the Apexi are going to handle anything this side of a drag car will throw at it...and even then they may still work...

I"m interested too since no one to date has stressed a Cosworth headgasket to its failing point.

My mistake! I thought to myself : that dont make sense, the stock head gasket does almost that so of course the cosworth is up there close to apexi! Mazworks stated apexi can hold 45+ psi so of course cosworth will be right around less or even more but we wont know untill it has a scientific test to prove what It can and cant handle. Was your block bored to the appropriate size?

You're one of few who've enjoyed success with them. I swore by them on my KA, but wouldn't touch them with SR's...esepcially with the price of the Cosworth application.
