need for intercooler on sr20det

im picking up an engine in a couple of days and it's not coming with an intercooler. i was wondering if i necessarily needed the intercooler in order to run the car?

No. There are a lot of cars out there that don't utilize them. An intercooler will help make more power by cooling the air which makes it denser.

Right on brother, you can get a ebay front mount kit that work well for your needs when you get some money. Just don't go cheap on the important parts like BOV, wastegate, fuel controls.

Id be a little worried about detonation. The ecu is tuned with an intercooler.

You can start it up without one, like I did and it seemed to run ok but I wouldn't suggest driving it

^ you can start it with out one, but you dont necessarily want the turbo to run with no p,ipe from the turbo to the throttle body, specially if you have air going through the turbine
