Hey guys, first time member, long time reader.I am looking at purchasing a 1992 Silvia K's with 145 000 km on the SR 20 red top. Is this asking for engine problems? How many KM's do SR 20 Red Tops usually make it to before they need a re-build? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Thats gonna be a hard question. Most of the guys around here get the motor it self, not preinstalled in a car, and rebuild or at least refreshen the motor.

In your case i would check key things, water pump, front main seal for leaks, rear main ever replacedHow does the clutch feelWhat mods have been done to the car( usually give you an idea on how hard the car was used)Rust

If all those check out you should be fine. These motors can last a while.

Just treat it like you would any other car when you're inspecting it for a purchase. Silvias and SRs aren't fragile little creatures. So long as they were taken care of properly, they'll last as long as any other car out there.

Mod list wasnt to help us its just supposed to give you an idea of how hard the car was abused. Obviously the car wasnt driven by some old lady and was pushed. Now thats not a bad thing, just something to be aware about. Also take it to a mechanic or dealer and have them do a once over to check and see if everthing checks out.

Not sure we can answer that. Does he have detailed service records? Or at least papers for parts replaced, water pump, clutch, etc?

New Royal Purple transmission and diff fluid ($300 value)

This i dont believe. Looks like a good purchase though. I hope that they put the correct additive in your diff if it is indeed a 2 way.
