need expert advice! ka24 motor problem

Hi, i have a 93 240 5mt with a stock ka24de dohc. ive spent howers looking over forums 4 somone with the same problem as me but i have had no luck so im gonna ask the question myself...... A couple of days ago i was driving down the street and suddenly i felt a loss of power, as i pressed the throttle more and the car started to sputter and jurk wildly(2000rpms). i depressed the clutch and the car instantly died. The motor started up fine, but was idleing very strangely. It would go from 700rpms down to 0 and jump back up to 700 and go back down to 0 until the car would finally stall out(grey smoke pouring from exhaust). Despite of this i drove off. the car would die every time it was in nutural. When i got home it was running great, after about 30 min the same problem, but then it would go away again. What is happening?

hmmm.. number one thing that i would check is if your ECU codes. if you dont know how to you can look it up on the FAQs for this forumn. even if you check engine light is not on their are some things that the ECU catches but does not trigger the light so i would start their. if that checks out ok then maybe your car is over heating???? KA's tend to rev like you are talking about when the motor gets to hot. maybe check fluids and what not. Also it sounds as though your MAF is going out or really dirty. If you dont know it is that plug right after your air filter. Bad MAF's = Bad Days. Thats what i would start with.. good luck hope it helps

ya it doesnt seem like its over heating cus my temp gauge stays rite at the half way point. I am gitting a trouble code 32 (egr)from the ecu. Since the egr is not really needed, i blocked it off where the egr pipe screws into the header. but no luck. Any more suggestions on what i should check,clean or replace?

haha damn that code 32!!! i got that all the time. did you try cleaning your maf?? if you can keep it runnning start it up and unplug your maf.. if it runs even worse i would say your maf is probably good. if the idel stays the same then your maf is probably bad.. thats all i can think of that would cause that.

well like i said half the time the car will run good, so when i unplug the maf it will make a big difference. But when the car is running badly its hard to tell if its different. whats the best way to clean the maf?

go pick up some MAF cleaner at advanced auto or somewhere like that.

lol sounds like my car except mine dies after 15mins i replaced the distributor and every thing ran fine. your distributor is possibly taking a sh*t.
