Custom is the only way to go. Pick your favorite muffler, and your favorite exhaust shop... go to town! 2.25" is best for the Z24

Unless you're looking to spend a little higher $$$, just go from the cat back. If you don't have emissions, go catless and 2.25" from there back.... if you need to pass, just go high-flow from someone like magnaflow.

The best thing you can ever do is ditch the stock carb. Not sure if that's considered 'breaking the bank' or not... but you will never regret it.

If you're looking for a new carb, Weber is pretty much the only way to go. You can get them from webercarbsdirect.com. There are really only two options to go with for these trucks, a 32/36 for fuel economy, or the 38DGES for performance.

You can change the coils but I have no confirmation on this. I was going to use the MSD system but had to change plans as the engine I installed is not running as yet.

The mods really don't add a lot of power to these things. The best thing to do is actually get things freshened up, then do some simple mods for breathing and you're set. I think my full exhaust including headers added around 8ish HP... NOT a lot. But with the vac delete and other randoms mods to just make sure it runs properly, it runs like a champ.

If allowed where you are, do a vacuum line delete. Then move on to getting all new plugs, wires etc. and a new air filter/carb if you can afford it. All of this while making the exhaust 2.25" from the header back, and you should be pretty golden.

IIRC in Phx you will have to go through emissions testing with that truck. So no go on the vac line delete, you might be able to get a carb swap by them but a lack of vacuum lines will probably draw some attention.

Anyone else been through emissions test/ inspections lately?

Since you can't do a vacuum delete, pezi has the best solution that doesn't break the bank. Good plugs and wires (E3), the right exhaust (2.25), properly tuned carb and good coils and you're good to go.

I was wondering what you think of maybe doing a 2.75" exhaust?
