So I'm getting a 300zx and I was wondering after seeing The fast and the furiouse Tokyo drift the black 350Z I fell in love with that exhaust sound the deep grunt and the crackleing as it idles down I was wondering if anyone knew how to if possible get that exhaust sound on a 300ZX?

First, it's a completely different engine, so there's no way to exactly duplicate the sound. Secondly, most movies don't record the actual engine sound of the car you see, the sound is done in a mixing studio just like music.

You should also put some facts in about what car you own so people can give solid advice.

If you want a throaty sound with rasp:

Guess No. 1: buy Specialty Z 2.5" cat-back system (single oval tip), and no resonators. Best if you also add down and test pipes (assuming you have a twin-turbo Z). That will probably have some rasp to it.

Guess No. 2: remove the stock cats and resonators and replace with straight pipe

...but I have to ask why? The Z32 is such an awesome sounding engine with a good exhaust and most people try to avoid the raspy sound.

It is not a twin turbo (now) but it will be I just love that sound I have a 5" OBX muffler on my Prelude right now and it's sounds like a damn weed whacker or a pissed off hornet exact opposite of what I want, I just love that deep sound with a crackle or a couple pops when the car idles down maybe it's just me.

If you want a throatier sound, get an after market exhaust system. I'd recommend Specialty Z. If you decide to go that route, email Greg or Seb and tell them what sound you are after....they are the best.
